Good buy! 1944 are somewhat hard to get but no where close to a 1945(wich i have and NO is not for sale) The SVT 40 production ended january 3 1945,possibly less than 1000 rifles completed that year. I recently bought a IZZY 1940 and Tula 1942 and 1943 and 2 IZZY SKS a 1953 and 1954. Now i am broke but happy, will post pics soon as the 1940 IZZY get herethe reason i ask is i was at a local gun shop yesterday to pick up a svt 40 shipping crate, was looking trough the supply of svt 40 and found a 1944 dated one so i bought it along with the crate.
Well, thoses recents purchases weren't planned( i always say that but at the end, make no difference,i must grow my collection anyway) I should be good for somes times unless a SVT 38 show in my face, would round up my SVT collection pretty well. Ooops,i need a Kovrov too but since they are not so scarce, i will wait to let the wallet recoverCongrats on the new acquisition. Joce, how long you think you'll be happy? Hopefully it lasts till you're no longer broke![]()
A fellow CGN have 1, a 1940 Izzy. The notch on top of receiver is narrower than the laters versions.Another variation which seems to be rare are 1940 snipers. The 1941 and 1942 snipers come along, but I haven't seen a confirmed 1940 sniper.

Nice to see a 1940 sniper, but I think the variation in the sniper notch supports the theory that Tula was the only factory to make production snipers and that any Izzy or Kovrov snipers where more than likely 'field replacements".
Where do you take this theory?Just because she don't have a cartouche stamp in the notch? I'm sure on my IZZY that the notch was not made in the field.
When you look at some Mosin sniper , Tula have some marking that IZZY don't have but they still real sniper and not 'field replacements".
