SVT 40 Aficionados needed

I would like to begin by saying, this rifle does not belong to me and any offers to buy it will be rejected as I am myself hoping to aquire it for my collection, but the owner is reluctant to sell it as it was handed down to him from a family member.

Now the purpose of the thread:

I'm looking for info on a cut down SA marked SVT 40.
From what little info I've gathered off a short search on the Google, this rifle is a Finn capture SVT made at the Ishevsk factory, that was imported sometime in the 50s or 60s into the US as it has mixed serial numbers and no electro penciling.
Is this correct?
Also, who cut the barrel down? Is it possible the Finns cut down the barrel for ease of use while on skis and added a sight blade to the gas block or was it someone else like the importer?

I'm hoping it's a super rare variant captured and used by the most secret and elite Finn ski unit, who's very existence is only known in legend, and not what is most likely the result of some guy buying an svt and cutting off the end of the barrel because it looked cool.

But in all seriousness, any info is greatly appreciated.

Rifle info;
-Barrel is 21.25"
-Receiver stamped SA
-Unmarked front sight blade added to the gas block.
-no electro pencil marks
-mixed serial numbers

That looks like a Bubba Special... I doubt very much the Finns cut any of the SVT's down.

The problem is that with the barrel cut just past the piston, it's very unlikely the gun will cycle properly. All the gas will vent out the end of the barrel (path of least resistance) before it has a chance to build up pressure inside the piston.

In all likelihood, it will function as a straight pull bolt action rifle, not as a semi-auto.

$75-$100 parts gun, IMHO. $150 if it comes with the magazine.
 
It is a Finn Capture - you can see the "SA" above the serial number on the left receiver.

But then again - there may be lots of Finn's popping up on the market soon as a guy on Ebay sells fake "SA" stamps. Nevertheless from the wear, MM parts, stock, etc. I believe this to be a legit Finn.

Barrel as already stated is probably a cut-down job done on this side of the Atlantic.

Few options:

1. Replace the barrel - can be done - I did it once on another Finn receiver. Usually for guys parting out rifles the barrel and receiver is the toughest part to sell.
2. Make a legit carbine - the Soviets did make some when barrels were damaged. You would need some parts and a decent gun smith.
3. Part out the gun yourself. With a high US dollar and Ebay that might be your best bet. And it would be worth more than $150.....
 
Thousands of svt's were imported by GLobe ℅ in Ottawa and sporterized in different ways. Also converted to Mohawk 555 in 303. This might be one of there's or a bubba strike.
 
It is a Globe bubba.
The SVT front sight base, flashider, etc, is a piece attached to the muzzle. Install a new muzzle unit, and the rifle will look just fine.

Nice how an SVT still looks good even when bubba'd! What is with the bolt carrier having a stamped serial number? All the SVT's I have seen
have an electro-penciled serial number.

Figured it was post import hack but it's nice to get confirmation.

The plan is to rebarrel and if I get it, it'll be an addition to my Finn collection.
I like how it has no electro penciling or import markings and it's interesting that someone would go to all the trouble of cutting, crowning and dove tailing to save a few ounces.
