So all the info I've read says to stay away from heavy ball. I have two cases from Can Am of the Norinco 7.62x54 and never thought to ask about the bullet weight assuming it would be 147 gr. My bad,but a good price. So any one have any negative issues using this ammo in their Svt-40's.The 35 rounds I fired functioned fine and went approx 10 ft to the right on ejection. Empty cases that is.

Since these are so cheap to own and fire I bought another one today from SFRC and got another 10 per cent off for their boxing day sale. Cheap as a Ruger 10/22 with way more bang. But higher ammo costs.:)

Oh and I don't need no Limbsaver recoil pad with this Red rifle

great rifles, you should be ok. ive fired 203 grain soft points through mine and no problems. might have to ajust the gas settings though.

Rifle could become tired firing a truck load of heavy ball, and i mean a TRUCK LOAD!! For fews thousands with proper gas adjustment, i would not worry at all.

Thanks folks for the replys feeling better about the ammo purchase. Don't have to drag the Polish m44 out of storage now

147gr surplus shoot great out of SVT. Very flat and has more range than most open sight shooting permits. If I'm making match loads, I prefer 147 or 150 grain loads, but heavy 200grain bullets shoot well for inside 250 yards. The gas piston needs adjustment when changing bullets, make sure you have your gas tool.

I use 203gr in my SVT and it seems fine and pretty accurate. I took a moose last month with it no problems, as a matter of fact its the only animal I've shot to drop in its tracks, and I've hunted for 23yrs. I was pretty impressed to say the least. Cheers.
