I bought an svt 40 and while shooting it noticed in the magazine lead shavings. i put a round in it and ejected it and noticed its shaving a chunk of the lead off of it..... im pretty new to this svt stuff. is that normal??? I assume its because they were desgined to fire fmj.

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think you are suppose to use SP ammo in the SVT. My buddy had an SVT-40 and a bad experience with it until he switched to military surplus ammo.

It almost sounds as if, when the cartridge is pushed forward by the bolt carrier, the lead bullet is scraping against the outer chamber before being chambered fully.

The SVT is BRUTAL on bullets. I have a few dummy rounds i made up using SP ammo and after a few chamberings the lead tip is all bent and deformed, often twisted up. Nabs is bang on, the bullet tip striked the bottom of the chamber and gets all deformed, a non issue with FMJ or milsurp ammo

The action would not cycle properly, even after adjusting the gas system. He didn't mention metal shavings or anything along those lines.
