Overall summary of my Svt from Lever Arms; it is a shooter that should last for years. It is not a collection piece.
I decided to play with the new rifle and really check it out; so i cocked it, and (i know its not good) pulled the trigger to dry fire it. Nothing. Trigger was limp
Complete tear down of this and my other one, compared trigger groups, and everything looked fine. The hammer released fine when it was not in the gun. Long, confusing story made short- the trigger will not release the hammer "out of battery" and the bolt needs to slam forward, not be slid gently. Was worried there for 30 min.
I did notice, along the way, that my Izhevsk rifle has a Tula star on the hammer, when most other trigger parts have the triangle stamp.
I also took a close look at the gas piston, and found that i could turn the gas adjustment screw by hand, much too easily. However, on reassembly, i tightened up the gas piston on the back side, which then tightened up the gas screw as well. Another false alarm. But, the gas tube does not slide over the piston nicely. It scratches inside, and there appears to be some serious burrs on the piston head. It would likely function, so im thinking that sanding the piston smooth may be trying to split hairs here. Would i be doing more harm than good? I have heard that over-gassing is an issue for these rifles, and maybe the increased friction would increase longevity of the rest of the parts...
