Hi All,just noticed tradex as some svt 40 rifles and some vz24 rifles in stock. They are asking 795 for the svt 40 and 650 for the vz24. Why are they priced so high thats more than double what i paid for my svt 40.I guess they will only go up from here on in.

It's the current market... IMHO the svt40 is a $250 rifle...

I do wonder though, is this the last of them that we will ever see?

If so... And you want one... Then the price only goes up from here!

Cheers
Jay

That does seem high to me, but I generally find their prices pretty reasonable so who knows? If they sell them all as fast as they've sold most else of what they've brought in then I guess that's the new normal.

Mosin replaced it because it is much easier and faster to make than the svt. Svt was a great rifle in the war both the Germans and the Fins loved them. It was also a very influential rifle for future designs.

They were not good in WW2 and were replaced with good old Mosin.

They were so awful that the Germans put into service many of the SVT-40s they captured and the Heer put out a German language field manual for the rifle.

The days of the cheap SVT-40 are probably gone for good -- though I think $795 is a bit aggressive in price. Glad I bought one when I did, though I wish I had bought two.

After kicking myself (and kicking myself, and kicking myself) over not having bought an M-1 Garand ... I tried to buy as many $250 SVT-40's as I could.

not sure that I want to pay 795 for a gun that hits me in the shoulder and slaps me in the face every time I pull the trigger

You must be shouldering it wrong, mine don't do either of those things. Get a sling and learn to use it while shooting, as for tradex's price. It just makes me glad I bought mine when they were sub $300. $795 is pretty steep for an svt40.

If the Russia and Ukraine import bans ever get lifted all the SVT-40 hoarders are gonna have a very bad day :p
but I suppose for now they will continue to increase as everyone still wants them for some reason

There was an article in calibre , I think , about how "easy" and "cheap" it is to import firearms from Ukraine to Canada. SVTs and SKS will continue to come just not at the prices we are used to.

BTW, nor Ukraine or Russia are under embargo. Certain Russian manufacturers are, not surplus firearms or even ammo. Canadaammo recently brought Russian capture remanufactured surplus 7.92. 2017 production. RC Vz-24s showed up too.

Supply and demand. Far less SVT's were made than SKS's. No retailer I've spoken with has any lead on any more of these coming into the country. You MIGHT see a handful show up here and there but they won't be for cheap.

Trade ex has had some really well priced surplus rifles lately. They know these are going to be hard to find. Prices will only be going up from here unfortunately

Svt can be sold to civilians, so Russian guns enthusiasts can legally own these rifles. This fact makes demand for them even greater as these rifles are more popular in native country than anywhere else. Sanctions or no sanctions it all depends on Russian government and their willingness to sell off their surplus inventory.
It is never bad idea to hoard milsurps as their value unlike any other investment only goes up.

Did anybody notice that the muzzle brake is from a late rifle? The late rifles didn't have the rails to sport a scope. It's a junky mess of parts to fake a sniper. Plus stock is cracked basically a pile of junk. Over priced not a buy.

The Ukrainians and Russians aren't stupid -- they know what SVT-40s are selling for now-a-days. If those rifles get released the base price will be higher than what we paid at retail a few years ago. The rifles will still cost $800 and Ivan (and Wolodymyr) will be making more than just peanuts on each of them now.
