Just got my SVT-40 recently and have taken it to the range a few times. Today I noticed a strike on all the empty casings that I hadn't seen before.

May be hard to tell in the photo but the strike is indented. There is also an extractor mark on the underside of the rim too. Could this be cause by too strong of a gas regulator setting (currently set at 1.5)? Is this something to worry about?

Thanks,
Doug

I wouldn't be too worried. Semis are usually hard on brass especially the Svt 40(fluted chamber mars the neck). I'd tone down the gas a bit though as it's easier on the action.

Sometimes the cases get slapped on the way out when they get ejected mine was doing that until I found one standing straight up jammed in the action. No biggy I just turned up the gas a bit and now they get flinged free and out of the way.

Thanks for the replies. After I posted I realised that the first time I took it to the range the gas was on 1.3 not 1.5, so I've put it back down and we'll see next time I'm out. Glad to know it is not something to worry about.
