SVT 40 - fair market value?

All I can say is Wow.. I picked up my '41 non-rail, 6 port, Marine stock Podolsk for $299 not that terribly long ago.

So my next question is are we seeing inflated prices because the supply recently ran dry prompting a bit of a panic, and they will eventually level out -OR- are these prices the new normal? Would another bulk import drive prices back down? Are we ever going to see a massive shipment like Lever brought in again?

Personally I think the red rifles are all going to sky rocket in price, especially the ones that people haven't bubba'd. Unfortunately I think that the un-bubba'd ones are going to be the hard ones to find. Most of the people I know have tryed to refinish the stocks or replaced them all together with plastic garbage.

This has happened before with these exact rifles. When I bought my SVT-40 it cost 450$. A couple years later, a new batch came in and the price got as low as 200$. Now the prices have gone back up.

I expect the market to stabilize in the 400-800$ area. They are relatively common rifles in Canada, and red rifles tend not to demand the same amount as alternatives. Why would most people buy a SVT-40 in the 800+$ range unless it was something special, as for that price you can buy things like FN-49s, etc. Which are all better guns. Just my thoughts on it, I predict the prices at the moment are mostly due to the 'oh crap' factor of them selling out in stores and no new supply being available at the moment.

Yup over the past couple years many guys stripped and refinished their 91/30s. Even just one year ago I know it was a very accepted practice. Now I can't remember the last time I saw a legit original refurb Mosin on the EE.

I bought 1 for 635$ and it's not a rare one...Since the last svt (-400$) from leverarm was sold, price goes up...

I learned about the SVT40 rather strangely. Apparently it was one the favorite guns of Saddam Hussein (yep from Iraq), watched a documentary and he was apparently given a low serial numbered version that he was proud of. Can't for the life of me find it on youtube today...

I picked up my first SVT from Horilka, still have not shot that beauty.. then I picked up a nice Tula matching shooter, then found a Isvesk with matching serial numbers as the year I was born bought it litterally on my birthday, and then bought another Podolsk in an AVT stock delivered to me in a parking lot by a young man on a bicycle. I love the SVT40 rifle, It is my favorite semiautomatic rifle variant that I own. Down the road I may consider selling my Tula but I think the rest will stay in my safe forever. (How's that for a run on sentence English majors lament)

When was this? if you want i can give you $300 right now ;)

And while we're at it, anyone who pain $75 for their Enfields Ill give you $100. And you guys that paid $600 for your Cz-858s I'll happily pay $650. Tidy profits!
Seriously, what things were worth yesterday is not what they're worth today.

Yeah, another dig at the guys who say I bought my gun for $X so they're only worth $X, but the same guy would never sell his for $X.

I got mine for $200 (the famous Lever Arms Christmas Special), and have kicked myself ever since for only getting 1. I knew at the time it was a steal - they were north of $1K south of the border for a "fixer upper" at the time.

And if you're annoyed at the going rate for them in Canada, you really should look into what they go for in the US. We're still getting a bargain on these rifles.

Two completely different markets, not a fair comparison. We likely have more SVT-40s in Canada then they do in the US, so I wouldn't say it is a bargain.

I think we actually might have less SVTs than USA, it's just smaller market created illusion of plentiful. I see several SVTs in USA posted for sale everyday, not so much in Canada.
