Svt 40 firing pin

Hi

Im trying to remove the retainer pin on my svt 40 bolt. Question is how? What side do I take a punch to?
One side of the pin looks quite messy, this is on the same side as the extractor

It won't matter. Just use the right size non-tapered punch. One of my SVT's needed a pretty good wack to drive the pin out.

Needs a good whack indeed. my pin is cemented in.

I found oiling it and leaving it sit for a few hours then heat it up with a lighter to melt any dried up cosmoline helped then put it in a vise ( put something soft between the jaws and the bolt, a sock works fine) and hammer away. Also like rocohman said use the right size punch so you don't end up mushrooming the pin in.

heated up the pin, still very cemented in.

The bolt must be held securely, and the correct size punch used. Like I said, I thought mine was never coming out until I gave it a real good hit with a large mallet.
