The larger notch is used to unscrew the gas tube and the smaller one you reffer to is to screw and unscrew the cleaning jag on the cleaning rod.Didn't spend much time trying to figure this out with google because I knew someone here would know. One of the notches on my gas adjustment tool has a slightly recessed area around it. Why?
The cleaning jag has an Izzy stamp?I have one that will fit without, and one that needs the recess. The one that needs the recess has an izzy stamp on it.
The jag i have in my SVT tool kit is a bit shorter and the flat part is narrower than on a Mosin jag. The SVT tool is thicker than the Mosin tool so they made a recess that allow the tool to fit on the jag easily. The SVT tool thickness is exactly the same as the flat part of the SVT jag but the fit would be too tight without the recess.Originally Posted by skookumchuck
I know the notch is for tightening the cleaning jag, the notch in the cleaning kit case of the SKS does the same, FYI. I'm wondering why it's recessed. It would fit over the jag without the recess, Joce?
The first use of the threaded cap is to allow a blank firing device(wich i try to get but seems even rarer than an original svt scope mount) to be screwed on. Why the left hand thread? An other russian secret that we will probably never knowNow it makes sense. I thought maybe there was some super secret use that I wasn't aware of.
While I have your attention here's another one for you. I imagine the threaded cap on the muzzle brake is to make it easier to clean, but why left hand thread? You have no idea how tightly I cranked that thing on before figuring that one out.
