Where do i find an SVT-40 gas tool and is it necessary? Can a wrench be used or will i likely mare up the gas assembly? I remember one of the supporting dealers carrying them but i cant seem to remember who.

I think someone said Tradex has the tools too.

BTW, can someone please explain how to adjust that regulator?

As i see it you dont really need that wrench, cause if you have the gas cylinder tightened properly it will be very difficult to adjust the regulator without first loosing off gas cylinder.

You must take off top hand guard first. Then remove gas piston. Loosen off the gas cylinder tube with adjustable wrench. Then the regulator pin can be spun by hand just line number straight up for setting you want. Takes like 2 mins once you get the hang of it. Bigger number more gas to piston. I have mine set on 1.3 and works ever time for brass. If you have problems ejecting at that try 1.5. mine has a tendency to come loose so check the regulator if you start to have ejection problems. Make sure every stick of cosmo is out of chamber. i uses copper shotgun brush and solvent and drill with a section of old cleaning rod. Alternate that and shotgun swab dipped in solvent. No more stickies.

Thanks Gristle. Is the number of the setting at the top, or what do you line up? So you can barely turn the adjustment when the rifle is assembled?

When the rifle is cleaned after firing corrosive, do you have to remove that adjuster? It appears to be retained by that split cross pin looking part?

my pin come right out after the tube is removed just give it a little tap. flat part with number should be facing straight up. Once you remove and inspect the holes on regulator you will see the largest hole is opposite the largest number, and the holes get smaller as the numbers do. so to line up with port to barrel the number has to be straight up.

To keep the gas cylinder from coming loose upon firing and the regulator from not spinning i dont see how it could be designed to be adjusted in a assembled ready to fire state.
