SVT-40 how accurate ?

I have had my SVT for a couple weeks now and have taken it out on 3 occasions . plinking pop cans and boards at 50 yrds is awsome. and good and accurate at 100-200ish . some feeding issues/ gas nut that have been worked out and have shot about 400 rnds . likes the chineese ammo i got . maybe because of fluting chamber gets soot black ? and is a big chore to clean. overall a great buy . I may still buy a mini 14 sometime as I still think they look sweet .

Glad to hear you picked one up - it's an awesomely fun rifle ... reload for it, I just posted these in another thread. Handloads will shrink your groups by half at least.

Also important to note - those are .3105 bullets, not the .308s you get in surplus. Slug your bore first to make sure it will take them safely [SAFELY do NOT just try it be SURE be SAFE]. [my bore is mirror perfect and razor sharp BTW - my first gun bought from weimajack here on EE]

The standard for surplus is .310 not .308. I have never measured fms but judging by some peoples experiences here, I would be surprised if they are not .308. Nice groups BTW. What is your load?

I measured 2 or 3 at the range - .308, it was that copper washed stuff with the red sealer around the bullet and primer. and those were the only surplus I measured - so I suppose 'it depends' on what you get...

Load is:
45.4g imr4895, 2600fps, 2.780coal 123g, Speer sp .3105 bullet.

and I have not tinkered with that load, it was the first kick at the can.

Does the fluted chamber give problems for reloading? The brass ammo I shot in SVT had marks from the fluting on the necks of the case and had a few little dents.
 
Fluting - no issues, mine always go away after tumbling, I've never seen it deform the brass.

dings in the case about every 3rd one midway down the body, it will bend the lip of the neck in every so often as well. it's par for the course, SVTs "do that" you can mitigate it somewhat by tuning the gas system but it will never go away completely. the case mouths I just bend out with pliers before re-sizing, dings in the body are fine as long as they are small & I only consider pitching the case if 3 or 4 accumulate. Every once in a while it will completely mangle a case but all in all brass attrition is below 5%. Be thankful its not a ljunmann!! :)
 
if its a new style mini14 then yes go with that (the new ones have a very distinct taper on the barrel coming off the gas block), Accuaracy is very good on the new ones ; i get .75 to 1.5 inch groups at 100m.

If its an "newer" inproved gas system mini with an old style barrel in good shape, offer him $500 and spend the extra $100 on an accustrut (they actualy work), if its a realy old mini just back away slowly.

I believe it is an older one from the mid 90's .
