Ok so bought an SVT awhile back and case of ammo and had mild issues at the beginning, (gas system needed adjustment), after that was completed I bought two aftermarket mags from westrifle (there made in the states not original), took it out the the range yesterday and have never experienced issues like this before. I had a ton of misfires (could it be my surplus czech 7.62x54r???) and sometimes it wouldnt even catch a round and chamber it. Shot fine if it could catch the round but I didnt go 5 rounds without a misfire/mis-feed. Has anyone had these issues with the SVT if so please help....

The mags are not sitting high enough to strip the rnd from the top, needs to be fitted. Bet it doesnt hold the bolt open on the last rnd either. Given that you are supposed to charge the mag in the rifle, why do you have so many mags? was the original damaged?

He has too many mags? If I have nine, I must have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many lol

In other news, desporterizer has it right about your aftermarket mags.
Even originals are finicky in other SVT's but most of mine are interchangeable with the exception of one

As for accuracy I cant say Ive done much distance but remember its made like all russian tag, some work great sum dont, mine has be hell to use, however Im confident im threw the hardest of troubles. The tolerances on my rifle were extremely tight for everything making dis-assembly extremely complicated.

I know its sort of off topic but I'm thinking of buying an svt and I'm wondering if they shoot 1 foot hight like mosins at 100m?

They are bang on for POA and POI.

They are phenomenally accurate milsurps all things taken into consideration.

And believe it or not, I have shot mine with a lot of different types of 7.62x54R including some ###y commercial stuff, and it still shoots best with good old surplus 147 gr Soviet Ball :D

ive had two and niether one was any screaming hell, sks is just as good imo, easier to clean ,just as accurate and alot less wasted bang

Try giving it a good cleaning and test it out again with the original mag.
I don't have an aftermarket mag, but my brother said his needed a fair bit of tinkering to get it to function properly...
I had a few misfires in the beginning and thought it was my old surplus, but after I had cleaned it a few times it works great !! (Did anyways, haven't had her out in quite some time)
The strippers that came with the ammo I got years ago kinda suck, ammo doesn't strip out very easily, but you get the hang of it...

I notice that the mag is a bit larger than the rounds where should the rounds be tight to the back or floating in the middle in the magazine? Also once in a while I will get an empty shell standing straight up between the bolt and the barrel. Should I adjust the gas tube to fix this?

Rounds are tight in the back. For your stuck case, turn the gas to higher setting, usually setting with most military loads 148-150grs should be fine at 1.3 and 1.5.

I found the cheap corrosive ammo works better than these hunting rounds I was shooting with the soft tip.
