Hi CGNers

I got my first SVT-40 this week and tried it this afternoon. The rifle jam in the reloading process. It fire well but the empty cartrige dosent get out completly and get jam as the next round moves forward. I shoot 20 rounds and this happen after the 5 or 6 shoot and still does until the 20th.

I wonder wath is the problem, i know nothing about SVT's but i taught someone here have the same problem.

Any idea ?

Have you adjusted your gas cylinder port setting? There is a regulator with I think 5 different settings. If you loosen off the nut on the cylinder (8mm wrench as I recall) you can adjust it with your fingers. You probably need to go up one number at a time till it is working well without overly pounding the action.

More importantly...have you cleaned any and all cosmoline out of the rifle, barrel, chamber, gas system?

You need to do a complete teardown and cleanup.

Don't forget to clean the barrel and gas cylinder immediately after shooting any milsurp ammunition as it is very corrosive and will damage your rifle quickly!

Yes. Adjust your gas system.

Now you know what those poor Soviet troops felt like on the first line of defensive at Kursk, when the 2nd SS Panzer Corps rolled towards them in July, 1943.

"Comrade Joseph!!!,....... my SVT is jamming!!!".

"Da Ivan,....... fix your bayonet , for they are at hand!!!,.......... I will cover you with my Moskva -Nogaintoshoot":p

Thanks Guy's !!

I take the rifle apart and i found the gas plus was loose, about 3 full turns. The whole thing was very greasy too. The gas screw is set at 1.3 so i decide to live it like this and try again with everything clean up and tightent properly before making any ajustement.

I hope the problem will be solve the next time i fired the SVT.

Thanks again for the tips,
Oliver
