I got a large part of my rehab project in the mail today. A half formed thumbhole laminate blank. Now to get the inletting done at the local replicators and I'm almost there. Just so I'm not vilified by the purists here is the story.
I went to a gun show in Kamloops B.C. in april and picked a SVT 40 in a shattered AVT stock with the intentions of using it for parts. Then I got to thinking maybe this wood be a good project gun. Thats when google image search and CGN member pics made me think of dropping some coin and doing a "bubba" projecthttp://s927.photobucket.com/user/cruddie/media/IMG_20150905_204338%201_zposoytquq8l.jpeg.html
Sorry about the post structure never posted pics before. Hopefully the gun turns out better that this post. You have to scroll over when you get to photo bucket:)

The question remains, where did you get the new stock from? Cause I'd sure love to make a stock for my svt so I can preserve the original a little longer.

I tried to get one in the lower mainland but the two gunsmiths I spoke with both sourced the laminate blank from the same place, rutland plywood out of the states. Turns out they burnt down last year and they were a major supplier to the laminate gunstock supply in the U.S. I eventually found Baer custom guns on the East coast and he was the only guy that would shape a custom thumbhole stock with the length that a SVT 40 requires (almost 40 in). I wanted a longer length of pull, which he added as well.
It's going to be more than I will ever be able to get back out of it. The finished product,I hope, will be getting a drilled and tapped repo scope.I will post pics when its done and let the Mob decide if it was worth it!
