I have a SVT-40 that seems to have light primer strikes with Chinese surplus. When it does fire it has no problems extracting and feeding (gas setting 1,5), its just the primers that seem to be the issue. Anyone else have this problem? any suggestions on fixing it? It runs MFS stuff just fine. haven't tried other surplus yet as i don't want to shell out for 880 rounds of Russian stuff quite yet.

Chinese surplus is mostly heavy MG ammo, with super hard primers.

Some SVT-40's love it, others won't cycle with it. Some won't ignite the primers.
Before you conclude its the ammo, clean out the firing pin channel and take it apart. Visually inspect and if all ok, it's probably the ammo.

I had this problem and ordered replacement springs for the hammer and related components from Numrich and it didn't fix the problem. The SVT-40 just doesn't hit the primers as hard as the Mosin does.

I have the same issue with the new production Chinese surplus ammo as well. Unless your firing pin looks damaged, my money goes on the ammo. As stated, they contain very hard primers. When I use older surplus (60s/70s production) both my SVTs have no issues.

Guess I'm lucky with the new Chinese surplus, both of my svt40's have no problem with it.

My SVT-40 does the same thing with Chinese and Czech surplus. It isn't the rifle though as it shoots some other kinds of surplus and all commercial ammo just fine.
