SVT-40 magazine availability ?

Seriously, just keep an eye on them at gunshows or EE, original ones pop up for $100-$120 from time to time. OR. Buy two more SVTs and voila - you have 3 mags!

Forget about the manual. No one in Soviet army red that stuff. Those that were issued SVTs ditched them the very first chance they got

Really?

Is that why German troops were picking up SVT-40s and using them instead of their own semi-auto rifle... to the point where the Germans gave the SVT-40s their own German designations and issued a manual for it ???

The SVT 40 and the Wehrmacht

When Germany invaded Russia in 1941 during Operation Barbarossa, they already had a self loading rifle, the Gewehr 41, otherwise known as the G41. The G41 used a complicated gas trapping system at the muzzle. It was difficult to clean. The rifle was complex, and not reliable. As soon as the Germans got their hands on captured SVT 40 rifles, they saw how good the design was. Many design elements of the G43 were inspired by the SVT. Captured Tokarevs gained more and more popularity among the German soldiers. So much so, the rifle became a very prized war trophy. In fact, they became so popular that the Germans renamed the rifles and issued a manual for it. The SVT 38 become the SIG.258(r), the SVT 40 as the SIG.259(r) and the SVT 40 sniper was named SIG.Zf260(r). The SVT 40 was considered overly complex for the average Soviet soldier, but in German hands, the rifle proved to be a reliable combat rifle. The same can be said about the well trained Soviet naval troops, who evidently appreciated the rifle’s capability.

Ditching does not mean to throw them away. Here how it was done. "Ivan you are wounded you are going to the rears in the hospital, do you want to trade your PPSH for my SVT, you won't need it there. Shure ok".
SVT is complicated even for todays standards and if you had to carry it around with full equipment, good luck to you.

?????

You know what's complicated? A replica 1738 flintlock mechanism for which you need to decompress THREE springs (using a specialized tool) in order to clean and lubricate properly.

Taking apart and cleaning an SVT-40 is simple compared to that !!!

Also, if all those made it onto e-bay it would flood the market. you could single-handedly drive down the price by 50%. Id advise putting them up for sale 1 at a time and then buy yourself a nice RRSP to retire on :p

Excellent idea... getting an SVT-40 that is.

As for extra magazines, despite all SVT-40s being issued with 3 magazines, they are now as hard to find as an honest used car selesman !!!

I have yet to find anywhere online that offers original SVT-40 mags.

As for the replicas, they are not so well built.

I purchased 2 replica mags from Westrifle and the lugs are not well placed at all so the bullets don't feed. :(

I've found up a CGN member in Winnipeg that will reposition the lugs for me as I don't have the metal working skills required.

BTW - Westrifle is not currently offering any SVT-40 mags... or SVT-40s for that matter.

Who is your repair guy? And how much is he. I have the same mags from westrifle and they are currently paper weights

Guys you know why replicas do not work? The company that ordered them first about 18 years ago was from Germany. What they did they send East German parade magazines for coping, they did not know that they were parade magazines. They do lock up in the rifle but intentionally will not feed

FIFTEEN MAGS ???

YOU HAVE FIFTEEN SVT-40 MAGS ???

OK, you are officially the god of the SVTs !!!

Can a humble supplicant get a picture of these mythical 15 mags ???

I'd be happy with just 2 extra mags so I can have the same number a Soviet soldier received !!

I have 15 mags because I have 15 or 16 SVT-40's. Just click on my name and then click on threads I've started to see pics of the collection. It ain't anywhere near mythical...

You have 15 or 16 SVT-40s and yet remain so humble... I applaud you !!!

Now that I think about it, I remember seeing pics of your collection... very nice !!!

He's just trying to justify the fact he hoarded 15 mags with these touching stories about being collector. It won't work, we'll not fall for this! No excuse for leaving fellow gunnutz without spare magazines! What if zombies come tomorrow and ppl can't buy second mag! You're going to burn in anti-gun hell DJdeadlyDALEK! :)

Maybe somebody have such magazine? (with stamped, not milled and welded ledge)

So far I failed to find one like above. Will buy immediately when I see one. Already have 3 other modifications. This is the last one I need.
