Finally figured out why the first round in my SVT-40 never feeds right, it always jams in the magazine when I try to charge the first round:

Here is how the last[first?] round sits incorrectly:

and how it should sit [there's only 4 in here now]:

I think this is because it was pinned wrong, you can't force the rounds down into the magazine far enough for the last one to sit right.

Does anyone else have this issue?

How can I fix it? [short of re-pinning it, a big no-no]

Can I fix it or am I looking at a new magazine? [technically if that were the case I would just buy another SVT :) ]

-thanks

oh - you can see it ~not~ feeding correctly here, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150913423873015 :)

Mag is pinned too short. Best way to fix it? Easy, repin correctly, will cost you a hole and a rivet:p I assume that the rivet is on the back side left or right so place the new rivet on the virgin side if i can say.

I thought this was frowned upon by the RCMP? [can these mags be disassembled?]

I bet ya the RCMP knows now, expect a knock in 3,2,1!!:D Just take the bottom plate off, grind off the old rivet and put a fresh one in on the other side,a little farther down, no fuss no muss. How do she shoot by the way?

RCMP dont need to know..... and yes the mag can be disassembled, floor plate can be slide off then internal are accessible:)

Thanks, I got it figured out, got the thing apart.

it's definitely pinned 'short' - I think the best option is to grind the follower by a couple of millimeters and re-rivet, that way it won't look 'modified'

Did you see the video a little ways up - that's her there!

so "like a champ" gas setting on 1.3 drops the brass in a nice little arc about a meter away. :)

Just do what you have to do, to sort the problem out. While your mag is completely disassembled. Inspect, and give it a real good cleaning. There is a possibilty that there is still packing grease and metal shavings (from when it was first drilled and pinned) inside the mag body. Then repin it, when your done. Problem should be solved.

To remove any rivet easily you must drill it out. These are 1/8 rivets and require a 1/8 or #30 drill bit. Just drill it through and tap it out with a punch. Next re-drill your hole and re-rivet.
