SVT-40 No Markings

My SVT-40 showed up today and even though it was supposed to be a "hand selected" Izhevsk 1940-41 with 6 port muzzle brake, has no year or arsenal mark and muzzle brake is 2 port/side. The arsenal mark and year have been ground off. I have never seen this on a surplus rifle, e.g. Mosin Nagant. Has anyone seen this on an SVT's being Russion Arsenal refurbished? Pictures will be posted shortly.

I own a few SVTs and I've looked at plenty - never seen one with the arsenal or date ground off.
Sometimes you will find ex-sniper or PU Mosin with part or most of the arsenal or date obscured but this is because the scope serial number was ground off (i.e. there is a rational explanation for what has happened).
Interesting "hand select" concept.

maybe it was for a top secret mission to kill Hitler keep your eyes peeled for choppers the Russians don't let secrets out.........

never seen scrubbed svt 40 post pics

If you paid extra for hand select then you have a legit complaint. Even if you didn't I'm not sure I would be happy with a scrubbed gun. Maybe with some pics we can pick out some redeeming qualities of it.

This gun sounds very odd though. I assume you are looking at the receiver bridge? If the markings are scrubbed there may be more to this story.

I've come to learn "hand selected" means nothing. Not from anybody.

They do not lie when they say hand select.

They place hand on the nearest rifle to them and select it out of the crate or the pile. Maybe somewhere there is foot select, unnamed appendage select, or even pet Rhinocerous select but those usually are marked up pretty bad ,but usually I've only ever seen people selecting with their hands.

This sounds interesting. Maybe missed out on getting marked or just very light?
Did you mention no muzzle brake?
I think pics are required

My SVT-40 showed up today and even though it was supposed to be a hand selected Izhevesk 1940-41 with 6 port muzzle brake, had none. The marker mark and year have been ground off. I have never seen this on a Mosin Nagant so was wondering if this common for SVT's being Russion Arsenal refurbished.

We want pictures! In the meanwhile, to directly answer your question, I am sure none of us have seen an SVT with the date and maker stamps removed.
Probably the store grabbed the first 6 port SVT that came to hand (because that would be 1940-41) and sent it to you. I would be rejecting such an SVT.

I had a good experience with hand selected SVT-40 from LeverArms, got exactly what I wanted...

This was my experience as well. The guys at Lever really hooked me up with a couple of exemplary guns when I asked for hand select. I got a great SVT40 with a perfect bore and what looks like an unissued unrefurbed post war TT-33. I'd highly recommend them and their hand select service.

Most of those Mohawk conversions had the maker/year scrubbed.

I have not seen an arsenal re-finish with scrubbed marking. My theory is a light strike - or simply just missed.
