Hey guys/gals....

I've always loved the look of the SVT40, and seeing as I can never own a Dragunov, I'd like an SVT. Also, I LOVE the 7.6254R. Anyways, just was wondering if the SVT was worth the coin... Any info on how it shoots, reliability, etc...

Thanks

They're nice rifles. Easy to field-strip and clean. Kind of takes the edge of 7.62x54 as you don't feel as much recoil with a semi-auto. Still much cheaper than a G43!

This one's for sale right now. It's a Kovrov which you don't see much of:

As Skirson's mentioned, recoil feels alot milder than with M38/M44 or 91/30. Not difficult to clean, accurate, and reliable. I've probably put about 1200rds through one and never had a problem. I like the sights and the rifle feels slim compared to a Garand. I think you'll enjoy an SVT.

it's an interesting rifle
the only problem ive heard people complaining about is the sticky bolt
else it's a great rifle that unfortunately lived short
too bad i cant afford buying one now

The only problem I ever had with my SVT was early on when I first had it - it wouldn't eject the rounds completely, jamming quite often and infuriating me.

A short trip to the Web told me of the gas valve. One quick adjustment and it never gave me trouble again.

Fun as hell to shoot, too. I thought of it as my 'Big SKS'.
