im getting payed this Thursday and i want to buy another gun, i bought a p14 last paycheck and now i want another war rife, im not sure what to buy though, ive allwas wanted a German k98 but they don't come up for sale when ever i have money and my CT doesnt sell 8mm i dont think :(, and ive allwas though a svt 40 would be a cool gun to own and there selling them at crappy tire for $299.

a mosin i might even pick up even if i get a svt 40 or k98 because there so cheap but i need to find a place with good shipping cause one sponsor wants $65 for canada post and im not paying that much in shipping haha

so guys what one do u think is better
(btw im more of a bolt action guy, i love moving and the sound of the bolt)

Now is the time to buy an SVT-40. They will not be readily available much longer and prices WILL go up.

K98k prices are already sky-high so not much harm in waiting a while there - who knows maybe some more Russian Capture guns will come in through Westrifle or similar.

Mosins are dirt-cheap nowadays, why not buy both a Mosin and an SVT? They take the same ammo and together cost less than a decent K98k.

i get what your saying but im not sure about a svt 40 cause it seems so much like a sks and im bord of my sks, and svt40 will go up in price an so will k98, i just dont want to waste my money on something i wont like, im a poor student haha so i got to make my money count, good thing my schooling all payed for in the fall :)

cant go wrong with 98, I would pass on the latest model, some of the 1944and all 1945, toward the end the germans start cutting corners, production was more important than quality. Personally owns few and verry happy about...Had one that I regret selling, 1939 obendorf all serial matching waffen marks the all works, to me it look unissue, so maybe I was the second person to fire after the factory test... if tested. In the 70 I paid $90 and since I had severals, few yrs later I was offered $ 400 so it went!!
Tokarev had one did not like it as much, sold it for the same price I purchased year later $150
Never own a Mosin... almost did once but I back out.... I find it a bit clumsy but usually accurate.

All great choices. I too think an SVT would be the way to go, won't be many pouring in here forever, especially at these prices.
I favour the k98 of course, and if you really want one, buy one, but take your time and land a nice one.

Use yor head and buy a Mosin :).They are cheap, reliable and ammo is easy to find. Not to mention easy on the eyes. They are far from an SKS as well.

The SVT 40 really isn't like an SKS. It's louder, (exponentially so), has more kick, is a bit more accurate and is more finicky.

They're pretty fun. :D

LOL - anyone comparing the SVT to the SKS needs a re-think.

1) Cool WW2 provenance
2) world-class .311" calibre, same projectiles as the mighty .303
3) Adjustable gas settings so that virtually any load can be shot in the rifle in virtually any weather. Very simlar to the FN-FAL in this regard.
4) field strips without any tools
5) compared to contemporary guns, the SVT40 has very mild recoil, owing partly to the direct-impingment gas system.

I understand though... cool WW2 semi-autos aren't for everybody. The biggest fans were probably some sauerkraut-eating Nazis on the eastern front and they probably didn't know what they were talking about...

im not saying the svt 40 is bad im just saying im not much for semi auto, and yes it does have the history and i love history behide guns, it just im not sure if ill have fun shooting it cause i dont like the sks very much

I love a K98, they are slick, shoot great, and look badass. But cost is a factor for you. A decent one is $500 plus for a refurb. 8mm isn't cheap to shoot either.
SVT- great looking, loud as hell, really fun to shoot. The svt is an elegant weapon, not as clumsy or random as an sks. (Someone call out that quote!)
Ammo is cheap too at the present.
Overall quite a bit different then an sks.

91/30- fun to shoot, nice looking. Cheap to buy and shoot. Accurate. Will make a case of ammo last.

All have pros and cons, but all are fun to shoot and packed with history.

Then it sound like you made your decision:
1) Youre a poor student living from pay cheque to pay cheque= Mosin
2) Your local gun shop doesnt sell 8mm=Mosin
3)You dont like semi-autos=Mosin
4)You like a rifle with history= Mosin
5)You can buy 5 for the price of a decent K98=Mosin

svt 40 doesnt do anything a sks wont.plus theyre harder to clean and ammo is more mula

Ah, not so much Sir, they are both about the same to clean when shooting corrosive. There is very little actual difference in their design and simplicity in general other than one being longer.

Ammo for SVT-40 is a bit more pricey than 7.62 x 39 but still very affordable.

The SVT-40 is far more accurate a rifle than the SKS. Even with dirt cheap surplus I'm amazed every time I shoot groups at 100 meters with mine for a 70+ year old battle rifle.

I can only imagine how accurate they were fresh off the factory line

Try hitting a target with any semblance of accuracy with an SKS at 500 meters :p

I'm sure I'm not the only who will attest to the superior accuracy of the SVT-40 on here?
