SVT-40 or SKS?

SKS Better is a better Pick

Keep in mind that Russian SKS rifles currently on the market were not used much. AK-47 came in to service in large numbers in 1951-55 so most of this rifles were just sitting on the racks as rifles in case of full mobilizations. SVT is a great rifle, better range same wight BuT there was only 1.5 million of the made during the war they so alot of service in the war

SVT great collector gun/SKS practical shooter

If you buy svt it is a good collector gun but if you intend to shoot go for sks, they are in way better shape plus ammo is easy to get

SKS were used against the Hungarian revolt in the 1950s and as a interm weapon until the AK47s fixed there early gremlins.

The svt 40 was produced franticaly durring WW2 and about 6 million were pumped out (quickly). The sks is much more available and has a longer production time. According to my inspections/ oppinions i would sugest that you keep the svt 40 for a collection and conversation piece. Wile the sks should be taken to the range and use it to shoot the targets to shreds. These statements were only based on inspection and ammunition costs. Because i have yet to take my new svt 40 to the range i cant compair it on actual accuracy and range but only how cool I look holding it.

Go with SKS if you are new to it. SVT is more of a hunter rifle very accurate, bigger 7.62x 54 cartridge. With a good scope you can hit your target way out 500 to 700 meters

I reload ammo for my svt40 and have no problem having a great day at the range. Reloads can make for more accurate hits on the target, however obtaning boxer cases can be a pain as this rifle tears up the brass.

Buy both. Lever arms for the SKSandagiantfriggingboxofbulletsfor$350.00 and a SVT from Tradeex 'cause it's a great deal on a really neat rifle.

Never mind the availability of 7.62x54r right now. If you're patient something will cross your path sooner or later. In the mean time, Prvi makes a decent soft point and the casings are re loadable.

First SVT will get 6x42 POSP scope, second one will get Dragunov conversion with original Tiger wooden laminated furniture, POSP scope and bipod, ...

This is the furniture I bought, give me 6 months or so and I will post my result.

It can be done if you have the time $$$ and motivation. The supporting chassis will be the tough part. Kasat did one that looked freekin' great. I still wonder why he never put together a kit. AND FULLY REVERSIBLE.

How so? I've been toying with this same question SVT-40 or SKS. I might be able to get one but not the other. I already reload for my Mosin Nagant and have a reasonable amount of brass. Got any pics of your brass?

The svt 40 is a damn fine rifle. Last winter i have good time firing mine in cold weather,-30c*, with some chinese ammo 148gr FMJ that i have from Century many years back. Accuracy was very good. With gas regulator to the 1.5 position, reliability is 100%. In cold weather, keep it dry(no lube). Next weekend if i have time i will go shoot and make a small vid.

There is only 1 reason I would pick the son of the SVT over it. X39 is the most common center fire round in the world & to feed it will always be cheaper than the 54R. Plus in Canada 54R stock piles are feast or famine. Especially when we dealer like Marstar have stock piles and the government B.S. won't allow us to shoot it.

Someone told me that Marstar had or has surplus 7.62x54R. Gov't B.S. ? Why ? I am sure Marstar can deal with that they just have to know what Gov't wants.

Who has some SVT40s in stock? Tradex had some just before Xmas, but are now out. Too bad as they were only $299.

That was an excellent deal. I'm not surprised that they sold out. I just didn't think it would be that fast.
