Svt-40 rivet question.

I acquired an svt-40 at a gun show today, private sale. I find out later that the mag was pinned poorly @ 4 rounds instead of 5.

Am i legally allowed to fix the rivet job myself or must I take it to a gunsmith?

5 round limit does not include the round in the chamber. You can re-pin the mag if you are willing to drill another hole in the body of the mag

It would be a good idea to invest in a Pop Rivet Gun.
It will prove to be very handy.

Ill probably leave it the way it is for the moment but I believe as long as the floor plate is out I'm not in possession of an unpinned mag while I'm fixing it. Should the fuzz kick in my door mid-project.

They are not, no. The chamber has nothing to do with the magazine, so, an SVT-40 (or any other gun) pinned at four is improperly pinned the same way an SVT-40 with a magazine pinned at six is improperly pinned. The difference being, you go to jail for six and you're just fine at four.

The Liberal party is complete scum for forcing that crap down our throat.
