SVT-40 Scope Mount Options?

My SVT 40 has only the rails, no notch. I think my only option is the mount that has a picatinny rail. Can anyone tell me who has these in stock??

Also, has anyone had a notch machined on their rifle so it can accept an original style scope mount??
 
Available repro mountss are made to some bogus specifications and will damage notch. Your better option would be something like Addley Precision's SVT-40 Picatinny Smithless or similar. It's definitely better in terms of preserving milsurplus as it is, however I have no experience with such mount to claim they are really good or bad as scope mount.

The machined notch really isn't the way to go honestly. I own an original sniper and there is damage to the notch due to one of the previous owners shooting it with the reproduction mount. I would love to get an original mount, but those funds could get me most of the way to a nice G43.
 
I read somewhere that if you clean the grooves really well and then instal the repro scopemount but remove the crossbolt. You have to tap it in position and then run super glue down each notch from the front. the glue will hold the mount in place and if you need to remove it you use a debonder. I wish i could remember where i read about it??

It would be fun for a couple of range trips, but I would want something somewhat easy to take on/off for cleaning.
 
I have one of the Addley precision mounts on mine, slides on the rails and uses set screws to tighten it down to the rails and has two tabs on the back that brace on the back of the receiver to keep it from moving forward.

I looked on the website and the ones they show now look slightly different than the one I have, but it was a while ago, probably a gen1 vs gen 2 or 3 by now.

This is definitely true about the repro mounts damaging the notch. It happened to my rifle and then the mount wouldn't stay on. I simply made a spacer that would lock between the dust cover and the back of the receiver that the cross bolt for the repro mount could lock into. I haven't had any problems so far. I ended up going for a corwin arms scope mount... which brings me to a follow up question. What scope would be best to mount (under $200). I've never had a scope on any of my guns ever. I really have no knowledge of optics. My goal is to shoot nice groups at 300 yards.
 
Hey Rylan, it's Chris ;) Check out the Nikon prostaff line, I just picked up a 4-12power for my no4. Enfield just before I moved to the Okanagan. Something like that should hold up nicely on an svt40, Reliable had one for under $300. The corwin mount is solid. Really great glass from Nikon for the price, I was impressed after I picked up a 3-9 prostaff for my .22 Marlin last jan.

I see the OP has chosen a different route with the Corwin mount but for others, if you file (the receiver at the rear is quite soft) a notch you just file it deep enough for the cross pin on the repro mount to fit very snugly and you won't have any problems.

Heyya Chris! Thanks for your input if I get time I'll check them out this weekend. I have a bit of time before the mount arrives, but I'm anxious for a new optic!

2 years without issues, I did use a small amount of devcon on the rails as well ;). The scope has yet to move or lose zero.

Chainsaw file worked perfect for the notch.

The best part of using a SVT mount is you dont need to remove it to clean the rifle.
