Hope this is the right forum for this ...
I am just going to get my first SVT40 and I was wondering if there are two diferent types of slotted groves on the receiver cover for a scope mount? I will be looking for a scope mount. I thought I found one for $150 in the states but seem to have lost the site  Can they be found for that price or are they more exsensive?

Thanks

Numrich has the mounts under SVT 40 parts. The $150.00 is about the best US price. The true sniper model has a rectangular cut at the top of the receiver rear, and will show inspector mark stamps in it. The side rail grooves were found on all SVT 40s until 1942 or so.

i haven't seen any there

I found it on Numrich, but the problem then becomes finding a "Tokarev" scope, instead of the more common PU. Has there been any replicas of that scope?

Whatever happened to the old B-Square mount? I take it that they've discontinued it. Alternatively, has anybody ever tried adapting a mosin scout mount to the tokarev? I only own an SVT, so I can't really compare the two rear sights to see what would be involved in the mods.

Yea thanks I did find them at NUMRICH

No, you need to have a notch/slotted grove machined at the rear of the receiver to fix the mount in place. It is that notch that gave the Soviets so much trouble, they tried three different types before abandonning the SVT-40 as a sniper's rifle. They stripped the scopes off the SVT-40 rifles and re-used them on 91/30 PU sniper's rifles.

A Fellow I know is working on a design for a scope mount that will be fixed on SVT-40 with siderails, but without having to notch or tapped anyway the rifle and preserving its collection value. It will be similar to the commercial S&K Isnta mount system.

excellent, ive been waiting for something like this...now ill need a new svt. Were korovs ever made with scope rails? Ive been eyeing the ones on your site while trying to find a finn capture :)

Yes during the short 6 months production of the SVT's at Kovrov, the rails were still being machined into the receivers. I hope by the end of the summer to have at least a prototype in my hands of the mounts.

So back to the scope mount question it says on the Numrich scope mounts ...(Mounts on all Tokarev rifles with receiver grooves.) is that a lie or what?

It must be, but I doubt Numrich would make this mistake. It is more likely that they have versions that will mount without modifications since the wording clearly states that. You can always return it for a refund if it doesn't work out that way.

Dave S had a Tokarev repro scope on the EE last time I checked.

They could never make a receiver cover mount like on the SKS because the Tokarev receiver cover moves forward for disassembling and is only secured by springs.

Does anyone know why the cut on a true sniper is larger than the pin on the scope mounts? It seems the fit was intentionally sloppy? (I think JP mentioned this a couple of years ago...the early cut was tight, then they couldn't get the scope off to clean the rifle so they widened the slot, then it was too sloppy and inaccurate, then they tightened the slot again, then they gave up in disgust)

What kind of proof markings are there to prove a rifle is a true sniper? Pics anyone?
