SVT 40 sniper - notch to lock the mount

Whoa there...there are those that would consider that Bubbaing an original milsurp rifle irretrievably...thus destroying it's collector value.

The biggest problem you are going to find is not how to reblue, but how to cut the notch. Cut in the wrong place(or wrong shape) will make the mount move. Also, the rail to mount fitting will be problematic. Done right, these mounts are fairly tight to the rifle. Done wrong, and the irons will be much better.
 
I've not had any problems yet with the cold blue found at my local gun store. It didn't smell bad or mismatch.

Assuming your SVT-40 has the rails already, the cutout would be the only challenge as stated above.

Cantom is also right about irrevocably bubba-ing a milsurp. The original snipers aren't that expensive. Why not get an original?

What kind of cold blue did you get Skirsons? Is it blue or black?
 
There are a few reasons:
1. SVTs are currently widely available at good price.
2. repro scope and mount are also currently widely available at good prices.
3. it seems easy enough to just cut out the notch.

i think original is not widely available now. last time when they were for sale was 1250.00 CAD (plus shipping and tax), but a clone can be done for half this price, for now...

well, i find myself difficult to bubba a milsurp as well. so, i might end up getting all the bits and pieces and not doing it in the end...:redface:

Repro scopes and mounts are not cheap and not exportable from the US...:(

Those were not originals, even if many retailers sold them as real one. With one quick look at the scopes even with their fake markings and dates it was easy to see they were fakes. Last batch of 91/30 snipers were also fakes, even if they are been currently sold as original as I write this by a couple of retailers.
