Svt-40 vs mosin nagant

Don't overlook 'Weimajack' here on CGN as a source also. I got two SVT's from him that were in premium condition.

depends on what you are doing. i find it a pain to shoot a semi-auto with corrosive ammo if only blasting off a few rounds.

where are these $100 mosins?

In terms of accuracy, the Mosin would be generally accepted to be the first shot champ. SVTs can be accurate but they can also shoot all over the place.

It's all about the bore/barrel... it's hard to tell the condition when they're coated in cosmoline, so getting an accurate picture means spending more.

Westrifle and SFRC will both pick year and features for you, but I don't think they'll check the bore. Westrifle puts up pictures of their Mosins, which is kinda handy.

Weimajack puts up photos too, and will clean the bore and describe it in detail. I've never heard anyone complain about an inaccurate description or gambling with his stuff. So might be worth the extra bucks.

Note: you said SKSs have short stocks. True. Pretty much all these WWII era Russian rifles do. So just get a stock pad - there are fitted ones for the SKS that add an inch or so, and the one I got, fits on my SVT just fine too. For the Mosin you can get a pad that replaces the butt and increases the length of pull, and it takes off some of the kick too.

I have a Mosin and an SVT. Both are fun, the Mosin has horrible sights. If you are not going to put a sight/scope/red dot on it, buy an SVT. SVT's are about $300 + or - a little, so they are not that expensive. I only shoot non-corrosive with mine.

SVT - More expensive, less common, will probably hold more value, not as reliable (takes some adjustment).

Mosin Nagant - Cheap, more common, will probably hold value, increased reliability (bolt vs semi) and requires little adjustment unless you have a lemon.

SKS - Cheap to More expensive, common, will hold value, reliability on par with the Nagant in my opinion. Ammo is the cheapest (smaller round).

There is one left on their website, and one for $110. Better hurry! lol (no shill)

There's at least one that's $100 and I count around 20 that are $110.

Some of the $110 ones are pre-war also.

But... be aware that they are Soviet arsenal refurbs, meaning you aren't always getting a 100% original rifle. Meaning not original to their initial manufacture. They've gone through refurb to be fixed up and sometimes parts are mismatched a bit. Though I think the hardware still all matches in most cases. They would be original to the state they were in when the Soviets stored them away.

Witch is the better gun? The real question is; what will you buy FIRST! Once you buy one... the other will shortly follow!

I think they updated their website today...didn't have that many for $110 earlier
