Recently acquired one of these and took it to the range yesterday. It was a military refurb and in very good shape. A few forced matched numbers but an excellant working piece of history. Ran some S&B 150 grain FMJ through it and got a three inch group with the iron sights. Still a film of packing grease in the bore despite several dry patching so I expect the groups will tighten up a bit more. The ammo was new production, not surplus.
Anyone into the Soviet Red Rifles will enjoy one of these.I like it better than the SKS basically because it runs a full power cartridge.
Just think if Remington were starting to import these under the "Spartan Brand" they would probably refer to them as the "Soviet Varmint Target Model 1940"

Aftermarket stocks for svt-40

Does anyone know if theres is an aftermarket stock available anywhere for my svt-40 cracked wooden stock:(

Thanks!

Haven't herd of after market stocks . But Gunparts Corp in the US lists surplus stocks .Not sure if it is a restricted export part or not . Being it is WW2 issue it may be OK to ship these parts to Canada like M1 Garand parts are.

Thanks m8 but i'm looking for a Tapco t-6 sks type stock

What would it take to have a SVT-40 shoot as well as a Dragunov?

There is a thread on this board about a custom job that slabbed new parts onto an SVT so it resembled a SVD. Really well done and impressive performance. It was up for sale on the EE maybe two months ago.

We had a guy up here in sudbury who did a tastefol jjob of putting an aftermarket, plastik SKS stock on a Global.303 conversion of a Tokarev I think it's Do-able if you're really stuck.

how bad is the crack?
i see SVTs on sale with cracked stocks but overall good+ condition
i would like to see detailed photos to decide if i would buy one or not

Depending on how bad it is, it may be repaired. If you are concerned about the historical accuracy of the rifle I would suggest having it done. I might be able to do the work for you if you send me some pics of the damage. PM me for my email address if you're interested. It will definitely be cheaper than buying a new stock!

I recently handled this rifle. The stock was hand carved, a very nice piece of work. I have the phone number of the guy who carved it out. Unknown whether he's doing any more but it's a painstaking piece of work.
The owner of the rifle still had the original stock too. That SVT mount is custom made too, I think by the same guy.

Thanks but i really want something different, like the piece of art in the above photos.

He's away till April 2. Remind me after then and I'll try to call him. I don't know the guy, just have his number.

You can be sure i will remind you,i'm really interested in finding out if the guy would consider carving another one for me,obviously time is of no concern at all.I'm willing to wait for as long as it takes to get something that nice

Thanks for all who responded and i'm sorry for the original poster if i hijacked his thread somewhat.
Thanks again fellas:cheers:
