Recently acquired one of these and took it to the range yesterday. It was a military refurb and in very good shape. A few forced matched numbers but an excellant working piece of history. Ran some S&B 150 grain FMJ through it and got a three inch group with the iron sights. Still a film of packing grease in the bore despite several dry patching so I expect the groups will tighten up a bit more.The ammo was new production, not surplus.
Anyone into the Soviet Red Rifles will enjoy one of these.I like it better than the SKS basically because it runs a full power cartridge.
Just think if Remington were starting to import these under the "Spartan Brand" they would probably refer to them as the "Soviet Varmint Target Model 1940"
