Finally, the SVT-40 has made it to the east coast, but in typical NFLD fashion, its overpriced like everything else here. 370.00 before taxes, can you believe the gouging we take.:mad: Anyway, looks like when I get one it'll come from the mainland somewhere, I'll have too watch the EE for one. Cheers.

how do you guys like the svt? i was thinking about picking one up and a mosin so i could reload the same ammo for both.

It is a fantastic gun. And for the price they are going for these days... a complete STEAL!!! :)

Just take a few minutes at the range with a small crescent wrench (or SVT gas tool) to make sure you set the gas up properly for the ammo you are shooting.

As long as you keep the chamber, bore, and gas system clean after shooting corrosive, you will have a lot of fun with this gun. She is a hoot to shoot, low recoil, rapid follow up shots, a very nice battle rifle.

Get in on the cheap surplus ammo that is in country while the getting is good. Biggest problem with these guns has been finding inexpensive ammo, now it is here. Get some!

If it makes you feel better, I paid $550 for one of the first ones from the first batch of refurb SVT40s 5 years ago from Milarm in Edmonton, Alberta..... :(

Got one of those. Nice to know I have to sit on it for another 20 yrs to get my $$$ back  I bought a Kovrov from P&S militaria in the fall for around the same coin but what a TIGHT rifle! No wood repairs, stock fit better, no wiggling magazine, correct muzzle brake... Much nicer product. I do like dealing with Milarm for SKS tho. Nice to be able to root around and pick out what I want.

I sold my '41 Izhevsk SVT40 with 200 rounds of '50s Hungarian Heavy "D" Ball ammunition about 6 months ago for $400 to a buddy so I could fund my purchase of a ddx ZF4 scope for my G43. Talk about a loss... :(

The only other loss I have taken on a Milsurp was selling an 8mm Hakim (also bought at Milarm, and was missing rear sight) with a S&K mount and a Leupold LER scope, paid $550, got $350 for it... Didn't realize until after we shook on it, the guy only wanted the Hakim for $350... I could've kept the Scope and mount.... :(

Luckily, I just picked up another Hakim recently for $425. :) And this one has the rear sight! Yay!

I liked Milarm for their parts bins. I would sometimes spend up to an hour looking through each drawer to find Milsurp parts I was looking for. Also, liked the surplus clothing section, picked up some gems there too.

Have not been there for about 4 years now... Thank goodness for the EE. ;)

With prices on SVT's now, I think I will have to pick up another one.

You can get them many places for $300, but its best to pick one out yourself. Quality ranges from gorgeous to fugly within the same crate fo rifles, mail ordering is a crap shoot...

I also bought 1 from Milarms somes years ago $550 but a pretty nice 1. I got my second SVT 2 weeks ago from Westrifle, with the sniper notch, i wait my repro mount to put it back on sniper configuration. The rifle is excellent with very good bore:)

I picked up two from P&D (one for my son) @ $300 and found them both to be in excellent condition. Bores were sharp and bright (after some motivated cleaning) and mine is grouping in the area of 2MOA so far (I need to shake out the winter wobbles). As noted in other posts ammo is plentiful and cheap from Badger Supply,Marstar and Milarm. What could be better, a bargain WWII 7.62 semi auto with cheap ammo?

BTW I tried some reloadable ammo (brass boxer primed) and found the SVT really beat the hell out of it (partially fluted chamber a la HK, and generous chamber dimensions). Dies are thin on the ground and pricy and figuring out if your rifle likes .308, .310 or .311 projectiles will take a while. Bottom line you can't load for this rifle and expect to save any money. Loading for accuracy, who knows....yet

Just to note, good luck reloading the rounds from the SVT. I owned one (paid 400 for it too, years ago) I tried to reload the brass and it would not work at all. The brass was just too chewed up. I would go milsurp ammo only.

I'd sure like to see some aftermarket scope mounting options. Repro mounts and scopes cost a bundle and the real stuff is made of unobtanium. A decent aftermarket mount that lets you use any scope you want would be peachy

Just go my goergous 41 SVT-40 from SFRC she is a beauty paid 330.00 all included deliver to my door i bought it online, i bought online a Mosin from them and it is very nice, they are a good place to shop, i guess if you ask them wath you want they will do their best... I am please with the quality of the firearms i got from them... JP.
