Just wondering .... You can find the SVT-40 rifle anywhere, but for the bayonet.... There rare to find and cost so much when you find one.... Dose anyone know why this is?
The bayos are hiding with Elvis, along with the spare svt40 mags and the original rifle slings/straps.
The general consensus is that bayonets were not returned when kit was collected at the end of the war/service for these rifles. The blades were of reasonable quality and many people kept them. Going price is somewhere from 200 up to 300 bucks, averaging 250.
there still in the Russian war stocks or they were made into T72's. Four years ago ,while in St Petersburg. I went to all the surplus stores, junk markets, antique stores, asked all the dealers ,none to be found. lots of WWII German stuff though.
If you do want a byonet, anything less than $200 is a good buy. They sell for more in the US.
The do have some spare mags in he US but they are not that cheap either.
I know the SVT bayonet was valued as a tool, maybe many didn't get returned? The therories of them being in stores or melted down would make sense too.
They did melt down the capture screws, sight hoods and bayonets on K98 for steel, why not bayonets?
Also check out eBay. I've seen SVT bayonets listed with and without the ball-end scabbard with prices starting around $150. Sometimes, you can actually find good deals there!
