SVT 40's Whole Sale Calgary 249.99

Seems to be a gamble - bores not perfect. I guess this is normal for SVT40's ...

They were dragged through one of the worst conflicts I history and operated by hastily trained conscripts. The bores on many of them are a bit frosty but they still seem to shoot pretty well as long as the rifling's strong. I have one that's real dark but it still shoots great.

At this price, I had to get one. WSS Edmonton North is all out of tools, just pouch and oiler included with rifle. Dis-assembly is not fantastically convenient. Bore is slightly rough, but rifling strong. Can't wait to shoot it this Sunday. Are the WSS green span cans Czech?

10 in a circle is the nation code for Bulgaria (Czechoslovakia would show bxn or aym for factory codes, and they usually pack rounds in cardboard boxes inside the crate or the can).

The entirety of the information on the can is:

7,62mm LPS (light ball steel core Spitzer/boat-tail) bullet, GZh case (bi-metal steel/copper wash)

Lot B02 of 1971 production Bulgaria, silver tip, Powder is VT type (which is some kind of extruded) Lot 1 of 1971 Bulgaria

440 cartridges in a can.

Should be a 0,311" 148gn projectile.

Update: Took it out Saturday and had a shoot. Shot very well, not as much re-coil as I expected. Pretty accurate as well. Would like to get a scope and a shell deflector now for it. Great gun!

Heads up for anyone looking for a SVT 40, bought one today at Whole Sale Sports in Calgary for 249.99. Guy behind the counter said he had a few.

Just wanted to let everyone know.

ALSO, such a nice gun, a bit tricky taking apart and putting back together, almost lost a eye a few times!

I wonder if thats why we see so many one eyed russian vets from world war 2

Thanks for the info red_bailey!

Took the rifle out to shoot on Sunday and started to get failures to eject after the first mag. Took the front section apart and found that the pentagon gas adjustment thing had rotated because the gas piston had shot loose. Tightened it down, set it to 1.5, shot a few rounds. . .still getting FTE, cranked up to 1.7, and all good to go. I had about 1/20 fail to fire with the Bulgarian ammo, good primer strikes, but no boom. All in all, still a lot of fun.

Agreed with others, that recoil spring is a weapon when you're taking this rifle apart.
