SVT-40's with scope notch

Yeah if someone isn't bragging about the accuracy of the rifle for sale, then it's usually not the selling point ;)

Ask yourself - how many super accurate milsurps would u want to sell? Say you had, oh I don't know, 6 mosins? Would you sell the ubder-accurate one? Or would you say "self, which of these will I miss the least?"

Cheers

I saw a mount where he took an SVT sniper mount, then drilled and tapped 2 holes through where the pin goes, then put in set screws. If the notch was present that would hold the mount still at least, the set screws would enter the notch and make the mount much more unmovable.

I have the repro scope and mount on my SVT40 and after a bit of trial and error and frustration, solved the issue to a point where it shoots good. I am sure it would do even better in the hands of someone steadier and with better eye sight than me. I'm not saying this is a definite fix for them all but it sure did cure my problems 100%. Let me say that by saying mine shoots accurately I am NOT trying to sell my SVT sniper or have any plans to sell it in the future. :D

The solution that worked for me was to put the scope mount in a padded vise and compressed the arms together about 3 to 4 millimeters at their open end. This makes it slide on VERY hard but once it is on the receiver and secured by the lock pin, it doesn't move at all either.

It isn't the slight fore and aft movement that destroyed the accuracy on my rifle, but my repro mount moved side to side very slightly in the grooves which caused lateral drift in the groups. Mine shot consistently at virtually the same height but spread the shots left and right. Put a laser bore sighter in and try it at night at a long distance while clamped in a vise. If it is the same as mine, you will see that up and down varies little, or nothing. Ah! The joys of living out in the country. Do NOT try this if you live in an urban area or you may get unwanted attention! ;)

I have no problem doing 2 to 3 inch, 3 shot groups at 100 yards now with mine using standard silver tip Milsurp ammo and now with the laser bore sighter installed and doing the same test, it varies nothing at all up, down or side to side. It was a cheap and simple fix for mine! I'd like to take credit for the fix but I read about it online on an American gun forum somewhere when I was about to give up on my rifle. When I get chance I'll try some commercial hunting ammo or some of my reloads to see how it likes those.

was reading a tread on milsurps .com and a fellow on there said that he just put lock tite in the groves and slid the mount in place and that was it,just waited for the locktite to set up didnt cut the notch on the rear of the receiver as there was no need for it just left the pin out
