Hey ya’ll, recently got my PAL and picked up an SVT with a whole mess of surplus ammo :)

I was wondering which commercial ammo feeds well in the SVT well for those days where I want to stick to my .22 and just put like 20 rounds through the SVT.

Thank you very much in advance!

I've fed both MFS and Barnaul steel case FMJ through mine although I'm afraid that cheap stuff has dried up. I'm sure it will feed most anything, might just need to tweak the gas system a bit.

The only thing i had any trouble with was some soft points one time, the soft lead was catching on the edge of the feed ramp. As long as it's FMJ you should be good to go.

I have Shot
MFS FMJ & 203gr SP rounds to good effect, Barnaul FMJ has worked perfectly fine also. Chinese Surplus is accurate down the pipe but it is hotter than the commercial.
I tired 5 rounds of S&B Brass SP through one SVT and accuracy was about equal with MFS SP... Overall I would stick with Steel in the SVT as they do chop up brass pretty good.

If your just getting into them now, familiarize yourself with takedown/reassembly because non-corrosive commercial 7.62x54r is hard to find right now. You may need to stick with the surplus for a while until another shipment becomes available.

Pretty much any commercial ammo I've run through mine has worked, but I've needed to open up the gas by at least 1, often 2 settings to get it to cycle reliably. Commercial 54R tends to be downloaded compared to the military ammo.

I found the same thing shooting S&B soft point, I don’t think I noticed any change in accuracy but I would stick to fmj if I had a choice. MFS and S&B went bang and shot fine, would like to try some PPU x54r but I can’t find any around locally.
