I'm considering buying a Mosin Scout mount for my svt, and I'm just wondering if anybody knows if the Mosin Nagant Scout Mounts will actually fit on an SVT? I read somewhere the the rear sights on the Mosin and SVT are the same, but I'm having a hard time believing or proving it. Anybody have any advice?

If your rifle has rails I suggest using the addley precision mount and its been doing pretty well for me.

My '43 Navy SVT doesn't have a scope mount, I don't want to ruin this gun by tapping in a mount so a scout mount would be ideal. Interested to see if they're out there.

There are mosin scout mounts available for approximately 15.00, I'm just curious as to whether or not the rear sights on the mosin and svt are the same.

What the cheap ones are is an 11mm to weaver rail adapter. Not saying that they don't work, in fact a lot of guys have had great success with them on their Mosins, which have a sharper recoil than the SVT.

What you have to do is knock out the locking pin from the rear sight with a punch, then drift off the rear sight, which exposes an 11mm rail (same width as on most European and some North American rimfire rifles). Then the adapter clamps onto that. The adapters sold as "Mosin rail adapters" are actually just repackaged 11mm rimfire rail adapters.

Now, whether that's the same rail underneath the rear sight of the SVT? I think it is, but I haven't knocked the rear sight off my SVT to check. You're going to have trouble finding people who have, because the SVT is only recently becoming common in Canada, so not many people have successfully modded them yet (I've seen a couple of horrible abortion attempts at the range already, but the learning curve, she is steep, when it comes to modding the SVT).

Absolutely no one in the US mods them. They're rare as hen's teeth south of the border, run for $1200-$1400 for a beater in need of resto and go up from there. It's actually cheaper to buy a PSL (Polish SVD), so why would you much around with an expensive collector rifle?

Any modding/sporterizing of the SVT is going to happen in Canada. We are THE ONLY current market for these rifles, thanks to Europe becoming a bunch of Hoplophobic panty sniffers, and the US still suffering from the market protectionism disguised as a "Military Arms Import Ban."

I think SVT modding threads are going to be pretty interesting around here for a while. Lots of guys thinking along similar lines and wondering what can be done.

I'll do a comparison between the sights when I get home, I have both a mosin, sks and svt.

Expect pics in an hour, i don't think they're the same at all.

Ok, got off my @ss and pulled them from the locker... Considering how often I've handled them, I never really thought about it enough to notice the difference.

Short answer: No. The Mosin "scout" rails will not work on the SVT. The sight bases are completely different. Excuse the bad photography, just grabbed a couple of quick snaps with my phone, but you'll be able to see the difference.

Just use original sniper set up. It is the lightest and strongest of anything available with little tweaking I even made new scope to fit in it

This is my long term plan...but I was thinking if the scout mount fit, I could use this until I get a good deal on the repro scope and mount, then shortly later get a mosin and toss the scout mount on it.

I will throw few mount and scope sets on sale tonight $298 for set. We only have 7 left so 4 will be for sale at the is price
