SVT40 bayonet

Horilka knows his stuff guys. If he says these are not real bayos than they are not real !

And the original importer (who Horilka has a longstanding personal beef with, but I'm leaving out of the conversation), as well as Weimajack (who has the current listing), know their stuff as well as Horilka, or better, and say they are real, or at least represent them as such. They have reputations on the line, and TBH, that's what bugs me about this perpetual axe grinding of Horilka's.

*shrug*

I'll leave it to everyone to make up their own minds. Honestly, I have no personal financial stake in this. Sure, I have one of the Polish bayos, but the likelihood of it selling before I die is pretty much nil.

Look up the photos. Look through the discussions and analysis of these bayos in the forums south of the border, and you'll find one consistent naysayer - and a lot of others who... Think differently.

A wise thing my mother once told me: "Sometimes it isn't the rest of the world, sometimes you're the one that's wrong."

Ok boys, that was very entertaining to read! Thank you! No, really, thank you!!
You both are the experts compare to me and watching you - it’s like clash of the titans.
So why is there such a difference in price between polish one and parade? Is the parade one made from the tinfoil or smthing?

I'll gladly concede the title of "Titan" on 99% of Red surplus to Horilka.

As for the price difference... Supply and demand? Don't know, TBH. Never handled or seen in person one of the parade bayos.

You keep bring up that "axe grinding". Instead of trying to insinuate on my motives please try to have a debate on specific items of discussion - milsurplus and accessories. Literally - let's talk about bayonets as I'm not insinuating on your motive, and trying to keep it civil.

You keep saying I'm the only one who thinks bayos are fake. I was also the first who concluded that so called "old import SVTs" are actually "Bulgarian light refurbished SVT". Nobody said that, until I did. And couple of other things about SVT. Have you seen me weighing in on LE subject? You know why? Because any Fudd knows more than me on LE subject. I'm not pretending to be an expert in everything, I am an expert *in very few* areas, but in these areas I'm really good.

These post war repo/fakes were never of my interest and my business until you challenged my opinion and insinuated on my motives. OK, there are two more experts in the world who can actually shut me up with or without debate because they know more than I and there two more experts who I could argue with and might agree or disagree. As you can see not many ppl could influence my opinion on SVT subject. I hope some of them will chime in on GB.

You're now involving philosophical thoughts in a very simple matter. Effectively you're removing yourself from technical discussion and going through first phase - denial. I have already simplified it to simple question, never mind the rest - how did fake Izhevsk markings end up on "authentic" 1950x Polish reworks?
You can either explain how they ended up here or prove markings are not fake. It's simple as that. Why don't you do it? Because you can't explain, because you can't prove marking authenticity (as all pictures of original items have different marking), because you know - as soon as you accept you were wrong you'll have to publicly admit it. So you're backing out with your mother's quote.

P.S. Bonus for curious minds - how come so many fake proof dies come from Poland?

Ok Mr.Horilka, I officially recognize you as The God of the SVT40! You got my admiration. Now if you can please tell me why is such a big price difference between those two bayos listed on EE?
I remember, a few years ago I was reading some Russian website about the SVT40 bayonets. And the main criteria there had something to do with the hardness of the blade. Original hardness-let’s say 10- was considered the authentic and qualified as a “weapon” according to Russian laws. The “retail” version hardness was only 5-6. And that was considered as a just a knife. So apparently lots of original, military grade bayonets were taken and the hardness was reduced to make them marketable instead of prohibited.
That’s as far as I could get.

While I'm glad to share my knowledge on SVT there is no much I can comment on pricing of these repro/fakes. I can only guess it's cheaper to make blade than blade with scabbard and all the efforts to fake wrapping. That's the cost side. And then there's a business decision on how to price them, again, can't comment.
What you heard about metal softening is true and it's about bayonets available for sale in/from Russia. They have some laws and prohibition on what is considered "edged weapon" and basically if you soften the steel then it's a "souvenir" and not weapon anymore. So they do that to original SVT bayonets and it has nothing to do with discussed two repro/fakes. So if you're after original SVT or any bayonet that was not softened I would restrain from buying from Russia, unless you don't care or it's just for looks.

Ponied up for one of the "parade" versions, meh...for the price don't care if it's repo or whatever, it's good enough for display purposes and my SVT's a keeper too :) .

Just got mine from Anthony and happy with the bayonet.

Comparing my Yugo M48 bayo to the SVT 40 Parade. The Yugo was heavier probably due the longer handle.
It would be nice if somehow I could test the rockwell hardness compared to other bayonets.

Sand blasted mine. Waiting on the paint to dry :)

Almost have a perfect match with the stain for the wood handles.

Should have it done by tomorrow. After that ill throw it in the pile with all the other bayos I dont ever use... LoL
