Svt40 gas system

What kind of problems are you having, I'm far away from you, but have an SVT40 for 25 years and know it pretty well, maybe can get it going with some advise.

The gas system is designed to be user adjustable, you shouldn't need to pay anyone to get it running properly. Remove the handguard, op rod, and piston cup, unthread the piston and adjust the gas regulator by tapping it out and tapping it in realigned to the next number up if you don't have the issued tool. Retighten, reassemble and you're good to go.

When I got the rifle, it had a shortened flash hider. My son wanted an original size one si I got one from Marstar.I installed it and it hasn't cycled properly since.I have tried adjusting the regulator several times, going as far as unthreading the flash hider to make sure the holes for the gas system were lined up.I was hoping that someone reasonably close with more experience could look at the rifle and help me out. Thanks

What a lot of people forget is that the chamber has to be spotless for the rifle to cycle properly.
Field strip it, take a bronze brush and scrub the chamber until it shines, the chamber is fluted and the flutes should be clean or the case will stick.

Make sure the chamber flutes are clean.

Ive often wondered how they machined those flutes.... maybe multiple broach passes. Doubt they had a EDM back then lol

Irish shooter, if your brass ain't coming out with pronounced flute marks on the brass...I'd be giving it a real good cleaning.

I assume that the gas piston is screwed down tight and the gas cylinder is not worn allowing gas to leak out ?
What ammo are you using, like I said before, I only shoot reloads, but I load them from powder and bullets from the original cartridges, that way I don't have to clean the gun every time because of the corrosive primers.
Which gas settings have you tried, 1.2 to 1.7 ?
Mine runs flawless on 1.2. Are you using the original gas cylinder wrench ?

If muzzle brake /sight assembly was replaced then the issue may be with the dowel pin not flush with the barrel. It should be aligned from the top with thin rod through hole on the top of the muzzle assy. even if its aligned properly the dowel still has to be tight fit against the barrel with muzzle assembly installed. if not, it can be canted and the gap will create a gas leak that will not be channeled through the regulator. And will just leak around the muzzle brake assembly.

Muzzle assy is not really interchangeable on these. One can have lower cut outs for dowel key, the others can be higher so the dowel will not be sitting flush with barrel, thus creating a leak.
