SVT40 parts brakage ?

find yourself a stainless steel gas piston and cup set....gas tool and stock tool.... ( Corwin Arms had them last i saw or Lever Arms ) ..... Everything else on the rifle is built to last a War so i wouldn't worry too much.....the handguard wood feels a little flimsy if one were to put a bayonet on and try poking something....other than that i can't see anyhting else breaking on this beast ...just take care of her, she's been through hell n back

They are pretty tough I find, have yet to have a part break on either of mine. Stainless gas system parts are a bonus, as well as the tools for the gas system and stock cross bolt. I've heard of weak springs being an issue, recoil or firing pin if I remember correctly. Someone make replacement sets I'm pretty sure.
Ive had a trigger return spring break, other than that a rifle i bought off a guy that "didnt see any corrosive ammo" had a heavily pitted firing pin. It was prb serviceable but i replaced it anyways.
Like Spotagwan said get the Corwin stainless steel cup and piston and you are good to go.
Btw i go tmy firing pin off Fleabay from a guy in Russia i think it was 30-35 all in

How about a spare casing extractor? It is a really small part and mine has come off and gone flying a couple of times while being wiped clean.
Spare magazines are a given of course (something I need to get). Heck, get a whole rifle for spare parts!

This. The gas piston and cup are the most susceptible to rust, even if you're using non corrosive ammo.
I swapped mine out for the stainless steel and set aside the originals, and just didn't look back. The stainless steel are also easier to clean than the blued steel originals, if only because its a lot easier to see if anything has been missed.

I have thousands of surplus corrosive rounds thru my SVT40 with the factory Piston and cup, Unless your Cup and piston is worn or broken there is no need to replace it.
My SVT still runs at setting 1.2 after all this time. Its a fix to a non existent problem just like a SKS buffer ...lol...
just shoot the crap out of it, and when the day comes something breaks, EBay has everything you need for spare parts.

The operating rod is very long and if you give the system too much gas it can bend. If you start small and gradually work up like you are supported to you shouldn't have a problem but if you are shooting milsurp and then switch to heavier commercial and don't adjust the gas you can bend the rod. Be good to have a spare if you come across one.
