SVT40- scope mount

The grooves are part of the equation, but to install a original style scope mount you will also need a notch on the rear of the receiver just behind the recoil spring dust cover. There are other more modern options availble but they do not look period correct (Not sure if that matters to you) because of the picatinny rail on them.

My eyes don't handle open sights very well. I notice my rifle has the grooves for a scope base.

Any one have one for sale?
I found that on gunbroker, milled from solid steel, accept 25mm scope tube. I dont know if they would hold solid but no modification needed if you have the side grooves. Could be a way to go....
