I noticed a thin slot on the reciever of my newest SVT40, which im sure that my last SVT40 didnt have....google images isnt very useful, but would this be a scope rail? i dont have photos just yet.

I was wondering....firstly, do i need to use more than just gun solvent to remove cosmoline? secondly, are these things worth putting a scope on? i give 0 fkx about collectability, but id love to take this out to the long-distance range days.

the scopes ive seen look terrible and like theyd have terrible eye relief, but what do you guys think? worth the investment? I have no idea what they sell for....

While the SVT-40 is not a "Dragunov", it is, however, quite fun to shoot as a scoped firearm... :yingyang:

And while SVT-40's can have scope-mount rails in their receivers, fewer have a "notch" in the rear of the receiver for fully securing the original-style scope mounts...

That said, there are mounts out there that "only" require receiver side-grooves, not to mention the replacement Tufforce receiver mounts.... :canadaFlag:

If you can find one of the no smith mounts that Corwin Arms sold a few years back they slide on the rails and secure with a screw and a collar. Removes for cleaning and holds zero, the picatinny rail allows mounting of rings and a modern optic.
