Ok, about a year and a half ago I ordered a SVT40 with original sniper reciever from PS militaria. I took it to the range the day I recieved it and had some function problems. I cleaned the rifle, put it in the safe and never got around to looking at it since.

With all the SVT post lately and the suggestion of "gas setting 1.5" I decided to take it out on my last day of vacation and to play around.

I never got it to the range but I did field strip it, set the gas setting to 1.5 and made sure to clean the rifle. Dry firing seems to work so the rifle should be good.

What really surprised me was below the Tula Star on the top of the reciever I found a marking that looked like an import stamp "09 Dec XX". There are no marking on the barrel such as US import marks found on rifles.

Does anyone else have an SVT rifle marked like this?

I was also surprised as the mathing stock has an amazing amount of arsenal field repairs. I would have thought it would have been easier to replace the stock as it almost looks like a patch work quilt. Is this common?

I have 3 svt and they have no stamps like your. The repairs on your stock is very common, more damaged stock would have been replaced.

I recall some having that stamp a few years ago. 2009 maybe. I thought it was some nato tracking system which we abandoned. not sure though.

I seem to recall from what I gathered an old thread (dang search function, you betray me again) that "DE 09" meant "Deutschland 2009", and as mentioned by CanadianAR was to conform to the UN's new system of tracking small arms - I believe these were sold by site sponsor dealers on this site, and seemed to be available from anyone selling refurbed russian SVT's.

I don't know what the marking signifies... Perhaps they were be shipped via the Ukraine or some other old Soviet state to Germany and exported from there? Strictly hearsay on my part.

I'm not sure if the more recent SVT-40's that Westrifle was selling had that stamp on them. I can't say if other dealers current stock would have it or not. I recently purchased a SVT-40 from Weimajack in the EE and it had the marking above the dated and arsenal stamps on the receiver. The marking is quite faint on mine - It'd be nicer if it didn't have it at all though.

Thanks for the info. I had some other SVT's with no markings (Early expensive ones from Milarm) and was sad to notice the marking on this one.

Where is the best place to get SVT's? Price and Quality?

I want to purchase some more to round out the collection. Hopefully one from each maker and maybe one with the late muzzle flash pattern.
