hiya guys.

Trying to decide between the two. The question on the table is, pound for pound, dollar for dollar what would be your choice between these two awesome guns for occasional range fun?

If you can find a 460V for a reasonable price, I'd take pick that up and I'm a big fan of the 44MAG.

The 460V can fire, cowboy 45LC, Ruger only 45 loads, 454 Casull and of course the 460 S&W Magnum.

Touching off the 460 at an indoor range is pretty much the most fun a person can have. Tons of boom, flash and flame.

Better be into reloading though, it'll get expensive pretty quick :)

That said, a 44MAG is easier to source and reload for. Full loads of H110 under a 180gr bullet are also a ton of fun.
 
The 460 is way more versatile then the 44 mag is but if you plan to shoot a lot of 460 ammo then you better have lots of money or be able to reload for it.

Get the 460V, I have one and love it, but you'll want to reload for it, it's cheaper and you get a bigger bang.

I'm not a big fan of the 629, there are stronger 44 mag revolvers available IMHO.
 
Depends on if its your only HG, if you reload and how much you shoot.
I have a few HG's in various calibers and I don't reload. I usually finish my range session with a few cylinders of 44mag in my SA revolver. If I need more boom out comes the 460V.
IMO the 460v is more impressive (in the hands and eyes) vs the 629.
 
Its not even compareable. The 460V is a fire breathing dragon!!! Its fkin crazy man. Its like if God carryed a gun it would be the 460V.
 
Recommendations need to be based on whether the OP reloads or not. 44mag ammo is relatively inexpensive and easier to find vs. 460S&W or 454 Casull. And shooting only 45 Colt ammo through an X-frame revolver (for myself) would get boring really fast. Besides, if it's the shock and awe that you're after you might as well get the big dog....a 500S&W....and reload for it.

let's be honest, he would carry both, including a 750 and 1000 if and hopefully when they exist!



but to actually be helpful to the thread, i would most definitely go with the 460 assuming you reload, otherwise the 44mag.

I reload for all my target long guns, 223, 260 300wm and would be right into reloading for 460 or 454 rounds. Are the components relativity easily sourced or are they scarce?

I'm a 44 mag guy. Can plink all day with 44 special and when I shoot my 265gr at 1400fps in my sbh its plenty stout for my tastes. I can then take the same load and shoot the 265gr at 1700fps in my marlin 1894 and go hunting. Plenty horse power and versatile for me.
