SW 629 .44 Mag vs SW 460V

Sorry to revive this thread, but was a decision ever made?

I opted for the 629, I had a .44 mag Henry so sharing ammo between the two made my mind up. That said, I still have my eye on a 460V sitting behind the counter at the range! Ive also bought a 686P since. Just got this thing about wheel guns right now!

460V is fantastic

BUT.....The biggest smiles and "holy #### what the #### is that" come when this leaves the case!

I have a Model 29 and a 460V. I'm a vote for the 460V. I love shooting it. I'm not quite yet loving shooting the 29. I'll get there. With the 460V it was immediate.

I'm at practically the same place you are, looking at a 629 and a lever gun, but as much as I love the look of the Henry I just can't get over how absurdly dense/heavy it is. My wife is the one who wants a lever more than I do, because she had a great time firing one at a recent cowboy action shoot, but she'd never want to pick up that Henry. I was close to buying the Chiapa take-down one that they just had the sale for, but due to all the problems people have had with them, I'm glad I didn't.

I'd love to share the ammo just like you did, though. Which 629 did you go with? I'm looking for a lightly used Classic in 5"-6.5"

I have both and I love them both, but if I had to pick it would be the 460 XVR. Its just plain bad ass. the foot and a half fireball that comes out when you shoot the 460 round sold me. Primers and projectiles are easy to get, brass is out there but not cheap. Powder as in any round is hit and miss. I don't shoot 45LC in mine because its boring and feels like a .22 compared to the .454 and .460. I shoot my .45acp if I want a .45 round.

Don't get me wrong I shoot my 629 more than my 460 but that's only because the grin lasts longer from the .460 than the 629. There is nothing shabby about a .44Mag.

Agreed. I love the look of my 29. I think a new set of grips will change everything for me. Oh, and a new rear sight. Mine came twisted. Indeed, there is nothing shabby about a .44Mag. It's a great caliber and I can see myself adding a lever action .44 to my collection.

I've owned revolvers in both these calibers. The 44mag is an awesome round and you can shoot twice as much vs the 460mag for the same $$. However, the 460v gives you more than twice the grin factors when you light it up!
I must be getting old because the "wow" factor of these rounds have worn off. I've been shooting the puny 45ACP in my 625 lately and enjoying it…..

I went with the 5`Full underlug 629. Ive since sold both the 629 and the .44 Henry in favor of a 686P fluteless and a Henry .357 Big Boy. Now that this thread has been revived I may have to cave and grab a 460V if one comes along. I can resist anything but temptation! lol

I have the .460 and love it. It creates lots of conversation at the range whenever I bring it out. The nice thing is my wife and daughters can shoot it with .45 LC and I shoot .460, definitely the . 460.
