Hey all,
I recently picked up a used sw686 and the grips seem to move slightly on the frame, allowing the frame to rock back and forth slightly inside of the grip. Im new to revolvers but i dont think this is normal 🤷. And yes i checked the grip screw and it is in fact tight. Im thinking the inside of the grip is worn a bit where it contacts the frame. Is this a common issue with the rubber revolver grips? Will putting a new set of grips be the best fix or is there something else i can try first? Perhaps a shim to tighten it up?

The wood grips on my 686 are slightly loose unless I heave down on the screw pretty hard. There's just a bit of play inherent in the design. *Shrugs*

My 686 is tight but its an older 686-1. I have been disappointed with the new ones not fitting as well as the older models. I agree with Ryan that you could use some electrical underneath.

Mine is a no-dash. As old as they come. With proper Smith presentation grips. The design just leaves a bit to be desired, there's nothing that hold them positively in place other than friction from tightening down the ONE screw. Not the best system IMO.

well if the pin is tight on the lower frame and pushed up in the recess at top, they can't move. The rubber is not as good as the factory target one.
I use some Hogue's and they are tight.
Factory rubber or aftermarket? square butts are better than the newer round butts I think
