I just purchased an older (1960's) SW Model 41 and have enjoyed the accuracy of the handgun. However, it tends to misfire or not load the cartridge properly. Can anyone give me some advise on this problem? It has been suggested that besides regular cleaning, the mags be the issue (burs inside) and the main spring maybe worn out. Does anyone know of a Canadian supplier for parts?

My 41 was VERY finicaty about ammo, CCI Std. Velocity, 40gr 1040 FPS worked flawlessly. My only grief came from a weak spring, numerous FTE's FTF's etc. Put in a Wolff spring, and back to normal.

i have a 41 of the same vintage. First make sure the slide lock and ejector aren't broken from a previous owner shooting minimags or the like thru it. Then clean it scrupulously. They are fussy about ammo. Only feed them target velocity fodder or you will damage the gun and have various feeding and ejection/extraction issues as the slide moves far to fast and batters the frame and bounces forward.

I run mine on remington target velocity as that's usually the easiest to find in the area, but any other target velocity will work fine. The winchester subsonic also works well. Keep the velocity at or below 1050 and you should be good.

I purchased mags for my M41 from Bulls Eye Sports in London, ON. They get them in from time to time. CCI SV works best but since 22LR is in such short supply I've been experimenting. I've managed to find alternatives BUT the trick is to make sure the chamber and chamber face is scrupulously clean. Crud will also build up on the face of the slide around the firing pin.

can you describe the feeding problem and what kind of ammo are you using? Also, what kind of misfires are you having? If the round doesn't go off, does the primer strike on the casing look light?

I would order a set of the various spring weights (from 6lb up) from Wolfe use only CCI standard and replace springs starting from lightest to heavyest till you get good cycling.

I ran into jamming issues on a different gun when I switched from CCI SV, which the gun LOVES, to some high velocity ammo. The clue was in watching the ejected brass. With SV ammo it threw it out well to the side. With the HV ammo the empties were barely dribbling out over the back of my hand when they made it out of the gun.

Then it occurred to me that with straight blowback guns the time the bullet spends in the barrel counts towards the total impulse energy. So a lighter and faster bullet actually transfers less total impulse into the slide. And it's that total impulse that is needed to obtain a good slide motion. So although the bullet is faster the energy it transfers into the slide is actually LESS.

So I made up a lighter but longer spring and trimmed it until it was just OK with the HV ammo. And with that small change it was still fine with the SV ammo.
