SW Model 52 potential magazine issue

Hi, I was hoping somebody may have some experience/solution with this issue; I have a Model 52-2 and one magazine. Gun cycles first 4 rounds no problem but extracting 4th round seems going to be a problem as its rim hits the 5th round in the magazine.

It appears my brass may need some trimming so I'll do that shortly. My question is if this is caused by the magazine, why the first 3 rounds are not hanging up but only the 4th round. I'm worried if I shoot the gun in this condition I may break the extractor, something I don't want to risk with this gun...

In one magazine I had of recent manufacture, the pin holding the follower was a hair too long and it was binding inside the magazine well. I removed a few thou from each end of the pin and that cured the problem.

In Model 52s the OAL of the loaded round is critical. If it's 1/32" too long it will hang up in the mag so when they say the bullet has to be seated flush to the case mouth they mean FLUSH. Typically handgun brass loaded to low velocities doesn't really stretch but if you have fired it many times it might be worth checking the case lengths just to be sure. If your OAL is even the slightest bit long the deeper into the mag the round goes the more likely it will drag on the mag interior and precipitate a jam. Before you start tweeking the mag lips, etc. verify that your rounds are within spec. And of course it doesn't hurt to make sure your mag interior is clean. If none of the above helps my money is on a weak mag spring. Wolff sells extra power (+10%) mag springs.
