Seems they got creative with the finger guard. Can't say I've heard anything bad against S&W rifles.

Only thing I have against it, is the 16" carbine barrel, not a far, but that could be the simple matter of personal taste.

It will be a decent AR. The problems will be availability and price. The ones we seem to get are export compliant models. No threading or flash hiders. This adds to
the cost to get it looking right if you choose to do so.

The DD V5 comes to mind as direct competition. Previously when the LMT mrp prices were on sale they were also a consideration for that price point.

I like the barrel specs on the S&W for accuracy potential. That twist rate and 5R rifling says they had target shooting also in mind. The LMT barrel in the mrp is one of the few other non SS target orientated barrels.

If the price was right Id consider the S&W. Keep in mind it's resale won't be as good as DD or LMT etc. So the price would have to reflect this.

16" is the best overall length. It gives you decent velocity for 223/5.56 and is still handy. As an overall patrol carbine it's my choice. For infantry style rifles Im still partial to the not so common these days 20" AR15. The other lengths would be for more specialized functions. Personal preference on this will no doubt vary drastically.

I purchased mine simply because it's 16" so I can take it to my range in the states. Might get a shorter upper later on for back home.

I'm not sure what you mean by export compliant? I had mine imported from the u.s. and it came with a a2 birdcage.

Until recently the US wasn't allowing export of certain rifles with certain features. Why do you think 223 barrels, wylde chambers, 223 marked lowers and muzzle brakes were so
popular for last number of years? This was due to US export issues.

If you imported it yourself then first off it's probably recent so the restrictions lately haven't been as bad. Secondly perhaps they aren't as picky when it's an individual export versus a larger quantity to be sold to the general public? I know you could still get hard to export stuff if you signed an end user agreement.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think a 16" barrel is a sweet spot on an AR, and I like the length. I just think they should move on up to a midlength system once they get beyond 14.5". Not impressed with the 16"/Carbine combo. One of these days when decent priced barrels become available again, I'll be dropping the 16" car barrel off my one upper and replacing it with a 16" Midlength.

Got one for 1150 plus 100 shipping to canada.

That's a very good price for that AR. The Canadian prices I saw were higher. I'm guessing you either exported it yourself or used irunguns? Also the ones I saw in Canada not from irunguns were export compliant models. No flash hider or threading.

I got mine from Jason @ irunguns

Great person to deal with. I had been corresponding with him since December when I did not had a rpal and I was trying to get 6920. But after sandy hook this I the most I want to spend on punching papers.
