um, no. These are documented via SW letters to have been made up until 1910. Just don't know where the cutoff is exactly.

I'm pretty sure you are thinking of a different model.

All S&W large frame top breaks (single and double action) were MANUFACTURED before 1898. They were SHIPPED until 1910ish.

(Sigh) RCMP lab does not agree. So does anyone know where the cutoff is as far as they are concerned? Getting info out of them is impossible ("submit and find out").

While I see that the FRT disagrees, there is a factory letter posted here that confirms all frames produced pre 1898: https://www.1898andb-4.com/guns/smith-wesson-new-model-3-450-caliber-target-model-with-7-5-barrel/

I am sure the CFC could be persuaded to amend the FRT if a letter was presented for your gun.

This is true I have letters for ones shipped after 1898 all frames were made prior to 1898

I'm not 100% sure the RCMP is not making the distinction between generic top breaks and the target version which were in their own serial range... S&W does differentiate in the letters... But I suppose there's nothing else to do except try.

Did you read the letter I linked to? It is a target model and the S&W letter states all frames were made before 1898.

I did - the letter you posted is for a different model based on the serial in the letter vs the serial range quoted in the FRT (and also vs the serial range quoted in the letter I have linked below).

Model 3 with a target barrel is not the same as target model. Just read the FRT please (serial range, calibers) The distinction is serial ranges and calibers.

What I'm asking about is a gun like one in this listing - read the letter carefully please - the parts where where it says _manufactured until 1910_ and total numbers produced and the calibers. (Or has this info been found untrue? Reference?)

I think a lot of the posters here are also making the same mistake.

So my question was very specifically about the target model of which only 4333 were made between 1887 and 1910 and a known data point of serial 2094 at year 1894
