SW SD9VE or Walther PPX

The sd9ve is horrible. If it's all you can afford save up longer and buy an m&p range kit.
The ppx is a fine choice for a budget pistol.

The reviews say different. People just don't like the 8.5-9lb trigger and long reset of the SD9. The price is certainly worth giving it a try. Father's day discount and free shipping and I got this all in for $350 at SFRC (out of province so GST only). Beat that.

Sd9 VE is $339 at Durham free shipping.
The ppx is awesome, kit is great except the holster has the retainer latch which is not great, haven't looked yet maybe the latch can be removed! I did my holster course with the ppx right handed and I am a left, it was a bit tough but made it through, ppx helped! Great trigger and very accurate!

I have the SD9VE....bought it as a back up and on sale for $299.00 on a Christmas sale. There is a reason it gets pretty good reviews. I have run about 1000 rounds though mine without a problem of any kind. As for the trigger. I know some think it's awful....but after shooting revolvers and several DAO semi's...the trigger is really not bad at all. Yes it's heavy...but it took me no time to get used to it. I have run mine bone stock. No trigger kit. It works every time and the quality is not bad at all. I have used it many times to train new shooters and they have all liked it. Just my 2 cents.

It has a better trigger than my FNL.40,,, but the PPX beats them both, not even close. The SD9 VE is SD,,, self defence, meant for the layman/woman to defend themselves at close range and most SD pistols have a stiff trigger so the owner doesn't inadvertently fire the gun, it takes a positive movement of the trigger! A lot of purpose meant LE pistols have heavy triggers for similar reasons. Hard to say you accidentally squeezed one off!

I bought mine for $300 as well. Couldn't pass it up at that price. I also shortly after bought a FNL .40 as there was a blow out on those pistols as well. The trigger on my FN is a lot better than my SD9VE. The SD9VE trigger is it's weakness, but I can still shoot fine with it and I don't notice it when I'm actually shooting. You really notice it when dry firing, but again I have not issues with it.

The plus side of the S&W SD9VE: SS slide, SS barrel with what looks like a very nice target crown. Also unlike the Glock 19, the SD9VE is just long enough that my hand fits. With the 19, it's too short. For $300, it was well worth it.

But again, the Walther is a nicer pistol. A buddy and I did an under $500 handgun test a few years ago with about 20 handguns. The Walther PPX and SD9VE were in those tests. I preferred the Walther PPX. Pretty much anyone who compared the two also preferred the Walther.
