Ok am I crazy? I own a m&p 9 as well as a glock22 and I have a Glock 19 in the mail on its way and I am seriously thinking of getting a smith and Wesson sd9ve because it’s so cheap right now. Am I crazy? I’m intrigued by them

It’s a nice, inexpensive pistol, but with a G19 on the way, unless you want the different branding I think it may make it redundant? I think the SDVE is slightly slimmer than the G19, which may suit you more if that’s what you like. The chrome mags are nice too.

Edited to mention that you will read a lot about the trigger. It’s not a trigger ideal for target shooting, there is a lot of creep and it is heavy. The pistol does fit very well in the hand, but the G19 Gen 4 Canadian version points so much better. Hickok45 demonstrates the SDVE 9 very well.

If you like a trigger worse than the m&p by all means give it a go, I always thought it looks like a nice gun till I shot one. I would be hard pressed to accept one even if it was free.

To answer your question: Yes. :)

I'm more definite about this than Butcherbill. If someone offered me a free one, I wouldn't take it.

I've shot my sd9ve alot. It is a great reliable gun. I also own an MP 2.0. In comparison, the sd9 has a lower quality frame with a little more flex too it. But, it has a high quality stainless slide, and other than the trigger disconnect placement, it is nearly identical to the MP. The magazines are really nice and are stainless as well. As far as the trigger, don't jump on the "It's such a horrible trigger" train. The trigger is exactly what it was engineered to be. Long stiff pull. Those who can't get over it are missing the point of it's design (SD). I've shot it enough that I actually enjoyed learning the difference between it and the MP. It's something different, and in my opinion different is good. If your intentions are to by the SD then dump hundreds into it for a new trigger etc, then I'd have to say you are buying the wrong gun and overlooking the point of it's design. In that case, don't buy it. In any case, it's a cheap reliable fun shooter and it's a Smith

What he said. For the price it's a great pistol. And just like he said, it's not a competition gun which is why it's marketed as an SD. Still a fun shooter at the range and zero failures here.

The SD9VE means "Self-Defence 9mm Value Enhanced". What for do you need a self-defence pistol in Canada? Here, you can only shoot it at the range anyway. For that purpose, you need a reasonably accurate pistol with nice, light trigger pull. You already have a M&P9 and soon you'll have a Glock 19. Both of them are way better than the SD9VE.
The SD9VE has a lot of negative reviews even in the US where self-defence is legit. I looked at one in my local gun store and it didn't fit my hand at all. IMHO it would be just a waste of money for you even if it's only $300+. Better buy more ammo.

I decided to spend it on ammo. Besides that my safe has 6 pockets for pistols in the door and it’s all full up. Got the glock 19 in my hand now and it’s sweet. Gonna spend the cash on new sights for it

Wow, a bit amazed by all the replies here. G19 like with stainless slide, stainless barrel (nice target crown on that barrel), fits better than a G19 as the pistol grip isn't too short, is American made and just over $300 Canadian... yet people still ##### about it?

I have one. I consider it the most under rated pistol on the market. Ya, the trigger is rough and heavier than most like. But it's not as big a factor as some would make it seem. With the latest generation striker fired pistols such as PPQ etc the triggers are truly phenomenal. Those are also $800 guns. As is the Glock I might add. Plus once you get shooting it, the trigger doesn't seem that bad. It's not a target gun and it will smooth out with use.

It's a heck of a pistol for the money. Which is why I bought one. Great for just changing things up, or getting new shooters into pistols. It's reliable, it shoots well and it's decently made. I may look into an Apex trigger upgrade for it at a later date. With an upgraded trigger I think this pistol will perform well out of it's price league. I also happen to even like the looks of it.

My two favourites at either end of the spectrum: Note: I have bought these pistols recently at the below price. However you will have to shop around for sales etc as I did. They go fast and the sales are limited time only.

budget/intro S&W SD9VE $310 brand new on sale before shipping/tax

High end/performance Walther PPQ M2 $700 brand new on sale before shipping/Tax

^^^ The guy already has an M&P 9, and a Glock on the way. Why waste $300? He can introduce new shooters with his other guns. Put that $300+ towards the PPQ. Much better use of that money.

I think you made the right choice, money for ammo is smarter than spending money on a dog of a pistol. Enjoy the new glock!

With an M&P and a Glock 19 , no real reason to buy the SD9. I remember its predecessor, the Sigma (Smegma) which was even a bigger dog of a pistol.

BTW which version of Glock 19 did you get?

Yet he's not adverse to having more than one of the same style of pistol. For $300 it's a pretty good cost effective addition to the collection.

If it's all about money and best gun/investment. Then sell everything and just get the PPQ. Glock if you're competing a lot and want the option of changing/replacing parts. Otherwise PPQ by far.

The SD9VE performs well in most tests I’ve put it through. I was able to obtain advanced level scores on the FAST and a passing score on the Advanced Super Test.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the pistol for the money. It’s perfectly shootable to a reasonably high level in stock form.

I have a S&W SD9VE for sale on equipment exchange. I bought it brand new put 50 rounds through it and hated the trigger I bought the APEX trigger kit which dropped the travel 10% and the APEX spring kit which dropped the pull to 2 lbs. what a world of difference. It’s been to the range twice since. I just don’t use it. Check out the reviews

I bought one too once on an impulse because it was cheap and thought what the hell...hated the trigger, loved the two-tone look but dumped it shortly after. It actually shot pretty accurately though.
